Dave Dahl denounces
Fitzhugh's attack of Republican voters
Dyersburg, TN- Today, Republican nominee for State House District 82, Dave Dahl, denounced a flyer distributed by Democrat State Representative Craig Fitzhugh that attacks Bush voters and mocks those who are mentally challenged (flyer included). "Hard-ball politics is one thing and everyone expects tough battles, but using those who are born with mental disabilities for political fodder is disgusting," said Dave Dahl on Monday from his campaign office in Dyersburg.
The flyers have been distributed for at least 2 weeks from State Representative Craig Fitzhugh's campaign office on the town square in downtown Ripley, which also serves as the Kerry-Edwards campaign headquarters. Dahl said, "At first I really did not believe that Fitzhugh and the Democrats would stoop to such gutter politics, but then people started bringing the flyer to me at the end of last week. I was shocked and disgusted."
Dahl said, "In my first campaign against Mr. Fitzhugh two years ago, the Democrats conducted a negative telephone poll on my then five year old adopted daughter because she was born in Texas and not in Tennessee. I guess I should not be surprised that Mr. Fitzhugh and his crowd would attack Bush voters and call them 'retarded.' This is how the Democrats do business." Dave Dahl continued, "The single minded plan for Mr. Fitzhugh and the Democrats in Tennessee is to attack Republican voters, attack those supporting Republican candidates and to ignore the real issues of the day: jobs, prescriptions drugs costs, education, security at home and taxes."
"This kind of reckless disregard for those who suffer from mental disabilities is much larger than any state representative race. This act is so atrocious and indecent that my campaign will be sending a copy of the Fitzhugh flyer to the United States Special Olympics Committee, the Special Olympics International Group and state and national advocacy groups who work with and support special needs children and adults," said Dahl.
Dahl concluded, "My heart goes out to the millions of families who have children and loved ones with special needs. To have their family members mocked in this manner is inexcusable and wrong from any perspective. These kinds of issues cross all political and social boundaries. I call on Mr. Fitzhugh to issue a public apology."
I was wondering if this is acurate, I live in the county next to where Ripley is, this is the first i've heard of this
So let's see...so far the party of tolerance has managed to demean those born mentally retarded and those dead or dying of spinal injury...all in a day's work for the Dem's...anything to gain power
I am outraged as well.
If you find out that Dahl truly sent this out, please let me know. I have not only family contacts (Morristown, Jefferson City, Knoxville, Nashville), but also professional contacts (from the Tennessee providers' association, such as mental health and DD organizations) who can make a difference in this campaign tactic if in fact it happens/happened. Also managed care organizations such as First Health.
That's a plausible scenario, but there are plenty of dumb politicians who would think it is humorous, and a few who would be mind-bogglingly stupid enough to distribute it themselves. If a stack of these things were being publicly distributed in his campaign office for two weeks, there is a good chance he was aware of it.
Who is splitting up the Country?
they will stop at nothing, f'n lowlife is a compliment.
A good friend's son has downsyndrome "Donnie" He is the sweetest kid.
I'm disgusted.
If this were done by a Republican about sKerry there would be little else being discussed tomorrow, and sKerry would righteously bring it up tomorrow night.
I think I'll send this information to the Shrivers. Yeah, THOSE Shrivers, as in Maria's mother, who holds a seat on the Special Olympics Board.
Can you head over there and get one of the posters?
The liberal party has sold its collective soul to the Devil. These kind of tactics will only appeal to the lowest, rottenest slugs out there.
Do you think that would make a bit of difference if it were a Republican doing this sort of thing?
There is a Down's boy in our church, Preston. He loves the singing and when certain songs are sung, he gets up and praises the Lord with all his might. I am sure that God really beams when he receives Preston's praise.
When my daughter was 3 weeks old, I took Preston in my lap and put my daughter in his arms (keeping my arms around both) and he was so excited that he wanted to come and kiss her every time he saw her for weeks. His mom said that it was the first real baby he had ever held.
I have several retarded cousins. This is VERY offensive. Shirley, Terry, and the late Jesse, are still human beings and deserve better treatment by the 'Rats.
yeah, I'll swing by there wednesday and see what I can get
It wasn't Dahl. It was his Democratic opponent, Craig Fitzhugh.
The 'Rats only care about retarded people as a political tool. Remember, the founder of the eugenics movement in the U.S. was also the a supporter of abortion.
I agree. At least one high-level person at the campaign should know about it. They'll fire some twentysomething college students, though.
Oh, no. Republicans can't win for losing. Bush gets blamed if some Republican somewhere spits into the wind.
Think of the irony, an image of human achievement, against the odds and above all expectations, exploited by those who, despite their "normal" aptitudes, sink to the lowest levels of moral and intellectual turpitude to gain petty power. These are people who would WRITE OUR LAWS???
