This is a thread to consolidate all of the commentary on the Florida message board concerning the judges up for election on November 2nd. Please keep this thread focused on the judiciary but feel free to start other discussion threads. Help us all make informed decisions on election day!
Ooh ... looks like the Fl Chamber of Commerce must have a few trial lawyers as members ... they oppose capping contingency fees.
Relativists like to call themselves "moderates" and to pretend that they are more "nuanced" in their thinking and thus are able to see a lot of "gray area" that many others aren't able to comprehend.
In actual fact, just the opposite is the case. They are unstable mentalities, having no core worldview.
Relativists see a lot of "gray area" because they are unable to clearly see black and white.
It is an almost impossible task for Bush to "connect" with wishy-washy Relativists. He doesn't think like they do.

You're welcome!
I know. I hate voting against The Chamber of Commerce's recommendation, but right now I still plan to vote yes on Amendment 3, unless I see a *convincing* argument otherwise.
I got a call yesterday asking, "Can we count on your NO vote on Amendment 3?" My exact answer: "I'm voting yes on Amendment 3. I'm a Republican. I'm NOT a DemocRAT - spelled RAT in capital letters." :)
I don't know who the "we" were who called wanting to be able to "count on" my no vote, but they were no doubt from the Chicken Little RAT party trying to figure out how much more money they would have to spend in advertising between now and November 2 to scare people into changing their minds and voting the way they want them to.
So far, I've found nothing controversial about my 5th District DCA judges. I looked at the last two batches of opinions and while I think some of those involved are guilty as heck, the actions of the trial courts were pretty bad and the rationale in law for the DCA decision made sense in a highly technical way. So far I favor keeping them.
I still stick by my NO ratings for the two SCOFla justices and the 4th District judges.

Governor Bush has suggested he has the authority to order investigations. JUDGE GREER WOULD BE A FINE PLACE TO START and if Greer was sent to jail, GOVAN would then be the Judge in District 18. It's not likely but it's possible.
GREER IS NOT A NICE REPUBLICAN. He's trying to starve a disabled woman to death but first he handed her rehab monies to the lawyers who want her dead so they could argue to kill her.
Bush appointees VOTED NO ON TERRI'S LAW. No dissenters. I'm voting NO on all the Fla Supremes.
The only Judge I voted FOR was Canady. That was it. The Second DCA reverses GREER ON APPEAL unless it's about Terri Schindler-Schiavo. Canady used to be in the House or Senate if I'm not mistaken.
I was also curious as to why the Chamber of Commerce isn't supporting amendment 3. I found out from a source at the FMA that the AFTL had 5 amendments ready to be put on the ballot this November. They already have two amendments on the ballot (7 & 8), and they threatened to put three more on the ballot which were anti-hospital, anti-insurance, and anti-small business. They blackmailed the hospitals, insurance compaines, and chamber of commerce into opposing amendment 3. In return, the AFTL agreed not to pursue these other three amendments. So now, it's just the doctors (alone) taking on the trial attorneys.
Thanks for the heads up. I have no problem believing that that is EXACTLY what came down behind the scenes.
Any specifics about the Judges in the 5th District aside from the chart at the top of the thread? If anyone has any info or links it would be appreciated.
BTTT again!
vote yes on the two SCOFLA judges. Even though they voted against Terri's law, it was the right decision in terms of the Constitution. I agree, that it was a travesty of the FL Sup Ct. to sentence this woman to death, but ultimately, the Court has to interpret the constitution. Bell and Cantero are conservative constructionists. So vote yes on both.
This site gives info on how they ruled on cases. It is the best I could find after hours of searching.
