The statement by Mark Hyman, vice president of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, that the television networks were "acting like Holocaust deniers" with regard to coverage of anti-Kerry veterans groups is grossly inappropriate ("Sinclair Stations to Air Anti-Kerry Documentary," Oct. 11).
Regardless of Mr. Hyman's opinion of the quality of news coverage relating to Presidential campaign issues, his analogy to those who deny the Nazi murder of 6 million Jews and millions of others is insensitive and painful. Usage of Holocaust imagery to score a political point is unacceptable. He should repudiate the comment.
Sincerely,
Abraham H. Foxman National Director
Just like those that turned their backs on the Iraqi people while they were being killed, raped, tortured. It only counts when it serves their own purpose.
Foxman is nothing but a hasbeen ghoul.
Good grief there are real jews getting killed every day in the middle east (because they are jewish!) and the ADL focuses on this?
</sarcasm>
Foxman is a gaping, prolapsed, talking posterior.
Mr. Foxman you would then have to condemn just about every politician that uses it to make a political point.
Criticism of the use of deniers of the Holocaust to represent tin foil hat-ism is hardly the way to promote Holocaust remembrance.
Come on, Abe. He said Holocaust deniers, not victims or survivors.
Hyman did violate Godwin's Law... but that is still no excuse for Foxman to get his panties all in a wad.
This from the guy that said Christians were going to turn into raving blood thirsty mobs after TPOTC aired?
Pfft.
Isn't this guy the same schmuck who raged against Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ?
Didn't you know only liberal democrats are allowed to use that analogy?
This means ratings. Abe Foxman helped "The Passion" debut at number one in the box office.
Sinclair is playing this thing perfectly.
What were Foxman's comments regarding Moveon.org's portrayal of Bush as Adolf Hitler?
Mr. Foxman, you may think you "own" the Holocaust, but you do not. It belongs to ALL of us. Actually, the Sinclair VP referred to "Holocaust deniers." That certainly has nothing, by definition, to do with the Holocaust. We swore never to forget. It appears that Mr. Foxman already has, and prefers to live in the past, rather than face the realities of the present. All too many of my fellow Jews seem to have fallen prey to this malaise. Kerry would no more support the survival of Israel than did the Clintons.
I don't recall Foxman complaining when demonstrators compared Bush to Hitler.
While I agree with Foxman that the remark was inappropriately phrased, my impression is that Foxman, most likely a Kerry supporter, is just using it as an excuse to attack Sinclair.
Dear Mr. Foxman - using contrived, illogical outrage to stimulate contributions is unacceptable and a retraction is in order.
