I would like to know for sure if Kerry was, if fact, an Alter Boy, I understand he went to secular private schools, and the overwhelming number of alter boys are trained by Nuns in Catholic schools.

I wonder if there is a way to verify his statement. I just cannot believe he would be able to come to be an alter boy without attending a Catholic School

I was an Altar Boy (in Latin Mass days). I did attend Catholic School but the Nuns had nothing to do with our instructions. We were trained by priests only. The classes were on Saturday morning and although most were students at the school there were a couple who attended the local public school.

I also doubt he was really an Altar Boy for the same reasons. Altar Boys were selected from the boys of the pairsh schools. Those attending secular schools (which was against Church rules) were not invited to participate.

I don't know about early elementary school, but I thought he attended a posh boarding school in Switzerland for middle school, then a private academy for high school. I don't think either of those two were Catholic. One never knows, but if his parents weren't strongly Catholic, it's doubtful he would have ever considered being an altar boy.
