Just got back from the Old Fashioned Political rally - in Loveland Co. You know that you are addicted to politics when you find yourself spending your 30th wedding anniversary at a political rally.
If you have never been to one, they are a great way to catch up on the political issues and hear the candidates speak, all in one night. They have free coffee, lemonade and popcorn and all the parties and candidates have booths. Got my yard signs (if they last).
I was having a great time until the democrats (they are very few in number in our fair city) got me mad.
I used to think that the Democratic party attracted mean arrogant loudmouthed uncivil people but I have come to believe that the it is the Democratic party that is mean arrogant and angry. They not only encourage this behavior, it is a prerequsite to joining the Democratic party.
At any rate we were sitting at the back and Marilyn Musgrave was introduced. All of Stan Matsunaka's ( her opponent) people held their signs up and and started booing. As she spoke and mentioned President Bush they yelled out liar and booed. One mother and her teenage daughter sitting behind us were the worst offenders. I just lost my cool.
I turned around and said, that type of behavior might be acceptable at a Democratic rally or the Democratic convention but this is called an old fashioned political rally for a reason. You are here to listen to the candidates and to cheer your candidate but booing and yelling liar is not be tolerated.
Of course the girl said "I have a right to say what I want" and I said - oh that is where you are wrong darlin- you have the right to speak but you have a responsiblity to be civil and back up with facts that what you are saying is the truth.
Her liberal mom stepped in with the liberal crap line - "she is just a young girl and if anyone is going to tell her how to act it will be me, you have no right to try and parent my daughter."
I said "oh I see, you believe in teaching her by example" and you are a poor example." At which time my better half spirited me a way.
I walked outside to the booth area and went up to his campaign staff and told them in no uncertain terms that the actions of his volunteers was abhorent and I would do everything I could to make sure Marilyn Musgrave was elected. I said I thought his campaign ads were bad until I witnessed his supporters.
Oh by the way, A German film crew was there doing a special on American politics. It will be on German TV and shared with NPR.
Go get 'em darlin'. Nice job!
You should remind Mr. Matsunaka that it was a demonic-rat president who coraled all the Japanese in America no matter whether they were born here, making them naturally born citizens, or not, and threw them into concentration camps from 1941-1945. Not just Japan sympathizers, but EVERY MAN, WOMAN, AND CHILD.
Good Work..
