Uncle Sam Will Soon Want Your Kids - By David H. Hackworth, DefenseWatch Senior Military Columnist
Recently, when John Kerry brought up the possibility of a return to the draft, SecDef Donald Rumsfeld was quick to respond that Kerry was full of it. But my take is that Kerry is right on the mark. Not only because Rummy has been flat wrong on every major military call regarding Iraq, but because this is a war that wont be won by smart weapons or the sledgehammer firepower we see every night on the tube.
Right now with both our regular and Reserve soldiers stretched beyond the breaking point our all-volunteer force is tapping out. If our overseas troop commitments continue at the present rate or climb higher, there wont be enough Army and Marine grunts to do the job. And thin, overworked units, from Special Forces teams to infantry battalions, lose fights
I also noticed he had a writing from a recruiter who simply identified himself as "Unknown Old Sargeant" who claimed he cannot meet the enlistments.
Ha! Less than 5% of our forces are in Iraq.
We are hardly "stretched thin."
Hackworth is extremely partisan. He is for Hackworth. Perod.
Michael Moore wants your kids.
Regular is fine, but he really prefers Extra Crispy.
he should run for office with bill o'reilly
"O'reilly / Hackworth: We're in it for the glorification of ourselves".
Of course, there would be a big fight to see whose name was first. In which cased I'd hope both could lose the fight.
Hackworth forgets that Iraqis are increasingly defending and protecting Iraq
OK, this has to be something personal between Rummy and the Hack.
Less than 5% of our forces are in Iraq
Could you source that? Have a few people I'd like to point that out to :)
Hackworth's a Hack.
THIS Old Sergeant is turning people AWAY. We've hit our marks, and THEN some.
Hacked-off is a partisan Bush-hating National-Guard-sneering fanatic. His name is not spoken in military circles; he's trashed our mission once too many times to be welcome again.
(claimed he cannot meet the enlistments.)
This is a confusing statement. The recruiter can't find enough people?
One of the most decorated soldiers alive. He makes good comments and bad ones, but most of the bad ones are usually right (just not popular).
Hackworth is a Democrat operative.
Not really. Hackworth will do anything he can to call attention to himself.
This guy was a great voice against Clinton and his use of the military - and if he is speaking out now - I have to think something is up that the citizens don't know about - he has contacts in the military and is probably getting the truth - whatever that may be -
It's either that or he has become sick and that is having an impact on his thinking -
just don't know why the drastic change -
All the services have met or exceeded their goals this year. Again.
Hack is for anyone who listens to his space cadet rants. He is only out for himself, he is still pissed off he wasn't made a General. Do yourself a favor ignore him.I also noticed he had a writing from a recruiter who simply identified himself as "Unknown Old Sargeant" who claimed he cannot meet the enlistments.
The military has met their quotas for this year. More crap.
Hack's hard drive has been hacked.
Hackworth is anything but non-partisan.
He also lives for attention. He'll say anything.
