Mosque on Fire After U.S. Air Strikes in West Iraq
Reuters ^ | 10/11/04

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. marines engaged in heavy clashes with scores of insurgents near a mosque in western Iraq on Monday, leading to U.S. air strikes which damaged the mosque and left it ablaze, the U.S. military said.

A U.S. military spokesman said marines came under fire from around 100 insurgents near the town of Hit, about 107 miles west of Baghdad, and engaged in an hour-long firefight.

Air support was called in after the guerrillas took up positions around a mosque in the town. "The mosque is partially damaged and currently on fire," the spokesman said.

"...Some crazy Muslim bas***** decided they were supermen and that it is their holy mission to rule the world. They've been pushing people around all over the world, looting, killing, and abusing millions of innocent men, women, and children. They are getting set to do the same thing to us. We have to fight to prevent being subjugated."

al-Sadr has his militia bring in hostages from the streets when he took over that one shrine mosque. He had the hostages killed, thinking the American troops would attack, so he could blame the Americans for the deaths of the 'civilians'. Troops didn't. al-Sadr murdered the innocents. So now the Iraqi Council is negotiating with him and they may let him have a position in the new government. Ain't life grand.

Could be similar in this report, considering Reuters as the source: The fire could have been set by 'insurgents' to blame the Americans.

That verb only applies to domestic christian churches.

Muslims are going to have to learn to respect traditional Western Ramadan celebrations. Deal with it.

See my post #36.

A U.S. military spokesman said marines came under fire from around 100 insurgents near the town of Hit, about 107 miles west of Baghdad, and engaged in an hour-long firefight.

"Some of the anti-Iraqi forces took up fighting positions in a mosque," the spokesman in Baghdad said.

Hit had some heavy action in April, too. It is one of those places where you kind of cinch up your belt just before you get there.

Why not flattened indeed?? If they use a mosque to hide in it should no longer be out of bounds---totally destroy a few of the raghats hideouts and they'll soon be forced out into the open.

Reasons for going to war in Iraq:

The latest CIA reports say that we DID find WMD after invading Iraq (just not "stockpiles" of WMD). The MSM will not report accurately on this, but there were other reasons for removing the regime in Iraq. Here's a partial list (please add more if you know of others)

1. State of war existing since the first gulf war
-Numerous violations of ceasefire agreements by attacking Kurds and Shiites
-Numerous violations of ceasefire agreements by firing on US and UK aircraft
-Attempted assassination of a former US president
-Conspiring to cheat the UN sanctions oil for food program
-Violation of numerous UN disarmament resolutions, possession of prohibited conventional weapons

2. Capability to produce WMD maintained in spite of UN inspections, ready to restart development as soon as sanctions and inspection were lifted; programs to produce chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons were maintained

3. Known nuclear material (LEU) stockpiles

4. State sponsorship of Terrorism: has been on the list of terrorist states since the list was first published

5. Base of operations for numerous terrorist organizations who have attacked the United States and/or our allies
            -Abu Nidal
-Al Quaeda training camps (at least one), key Al Quaeda operatives in Iraq
-Support for Hammas suicide bombers in Israel

The report failed to mention that the US, also, only targets women and children.

I am suprised that Reuters referred to it simply as a mosque. I would have expected "historic" "sacred" mosque.

Already read the thread. Any mosque used to hide combatants or store munitions is fair game, IMO.

the rumor I heard this morning that W. was wearing a hidden receiver during the debate Friday?

It was a rumor, started by the Kerry crowd as a response to the FACT that two objects, a pen and some type of card, were seen ON CAMERA, and discussions ensued about the possibility they are a 'cheatsheet'.

President Bush, IMHO, would rather die than cheat to win.

sinator Kerry would rather CHEAT,IMHO, and watch YOU DIE to WIN!
