Detroit has a Greektown section that tempts visitors with moussaka and baklava, and a Mexicantown neighborhood with Latin American groceries and restaurants. Now, politicians are pushing for a business district identified with the city's biggest minority group blacks.
The plan, dubbed "African Town" by some proponents, has stirred fervent opposition, in part because the new district would be established using taxpayer money that would be available only to black business owners

Can't wait.
[crickets chirping] It's impossible to comment rationally without being perceived as a racist by some outside this forum.
The thing with greek and oriental based businesses is they thrive on stereotyping. Ever try to stereotype someone of African heritage?
Please include original titles.
Thanks.
Africa is a continent not a country....
I hear there's gonna be an Ugandan restaruant, Idi's. Ugandan food made from real Ugandans
Pygmies, the other white meat.
I'm a huge fan of Ethiopian food, one of the benefits of Seattle's large Eritrean/Ethiopian population. There's a Senagalese restaurant down the street from me that is top notch. I doubt, however, that this corner of Detroit will attract truly African entrepreneurs. This is the kind of nabe where the only culinary options are Chinese take out and the occasional Mickey D's.

Hi,
I could have sworn you were a N'Yer, sorry for the non-sequiter.
The people's Detroit News/Free Press JOA paper reported today that the same city council that brought us african town is also having a guest speaker in the near future to talk about post traumatic slavery syndrom. No one in their right mind goes into Detroit unless it is absolutely necessary. I have to go there this week to get my CCW license renewed. All of the clerks at the Wayne County Clerk's office are africanhyphenamericans and they love to make the white man with his CCW renewal application stand and wait. They lose the paperwork if you try to get them to work on it at a reasonable pace.
What the heck, we'll just deduct the cost from their reparations.
I AM a New Yorker. I've just been "in exile" in Seattle since June.
Blacks comprise 80% of Detroit's population, yet they're still called a "minority" group there.
Further proof that "minority" is a political term, not a demographic term.
