Soldiers go for ride on Monster Garage
WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Oct. 7, 2004) -- Monster Garage recruited a crew of Army mechanics and welders to reconfigure a World War II Willys Jeep for a tractor pull in a segment that will air Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. (EDT) on the Discovery Channel.
Monster Garage upped its difficulty level by requiring an in-line installation of two engines in one vehicle. The shows master mechanic Jesse James and six Soldiers from across the country worked relentlessly to transform the World War II relic into the Willys Tractor Puller.
More than 200 active-duty and Reserve Soldiers and officers from posts across the country applied for a chance to represent the Army on the Monster Garage team. The following six Soldiers were selected and put their military skills to the test:
Master Sgt. Darrick Preston, HHC, 16th Ordnance Battalion, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
Staff Sgt. Jeffrey M. Mori, HHC, 187 Ordnance Battalion, Fort Jackson, S.C.
Spc.Benjamin Smith, B Company, 801st Main Support Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Pfc. Jesse Dugan, D Company, 801st Main Support Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Chief Warrant Officer3 Kevin W. Sargent, HHC, 1st Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
2nd Lt. Brian P. Johnson, 1st Battalion, 16th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Knox, Ky.

I've been waiting for an episode of Monster Garage with some American military. What took them so long?
Hell that junkyard show on A&E had those 3 brothers from the British military as a team on some shows 2 years ago and they were great, but it's about time we get to see what the US military guys can do.
I'll actually try to tune in for this episode.

Darn shame, ruining a vintage WWII Jeep for a TV show.

OUTSTANDING!!!!
High Props for Mr. James!
Jesse's show is always cool. The 'Old School' Chopped and Channeled episode showed that younger is not always better.
Besides, I want to see how these men are going to fit two engines inside such a small, revered vehichle.
I'll mark the date and make sure to catch the late-nite repeat on the 18th.
Jack.

Hey, I didn't say Texas, and 16" ain't shiite! These guys are using a Ford F-250, with a little bit of modification, producing about 1500 hp. They pull a weighted sled for 300 feet, or try... Have you ever been to a tractor/truck pull? Loud, and fun! ...and the worst sound of their world is a snapping axle!
A friend had his 1978 F250, with a 490 bored to 602, ported and balanced, electromotive ignition, Nitrous two stage system, approaching 1700hp, until his torque converter blew apart, began spewing oil, igniting him and the truck... After getting third degree burns, the idiot was on his tractor the next day, mowing hay... Redneck is an understatement! The truck missed two weeks!
