The Mystery of the Bulge in the Jacket
WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 - What was that bulge in the back of President Bush's suit jacket at the presidential debate in Miami last week?
According to rumors racing across the Internet this week, the rectangular bulge visible between Mr. Bush's shoulder blades was a radio receiver, getting answers from an offstage counselor into a hidden presidential earpiece. The prime suspect was Karl Rove, Mr. Bush's powerful political adviser.
When the online magazine Salon published an article about the rumors on Friday, the speculation reached such a pitch that White House and campaign officials were inundated with calls.
First they said that pictures showing the bulge might have been doctored. But then, when the bulge turned out to be clearly visible in the television footage of the evening, they offered a different explanation.

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman.
"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."
Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.
Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.
I don't know about a back brace, not the right place for padding or support, but if you look around the shoulder area, you see an outline of something, could he have been wearing some type of protective vest, I know word is that he didn't have on a bullet proof vest, but given the nut cases out there who could fault him if they did. Don't know what it is but if it is a bullet proof vest, I'm sure the advisors don't want that to become public knowledge, can you imagine how the dems would take that totally out of context?
obviously that is just about the last place one would put something they didn't want seen....
Looks more like a T to me than a "bulge."
What are the other litle wrinkles above it...uhhhh...wrinkles.
Also, in this blow up what are the weird lines in his hair.....blow up distortion.
I also notice that his right ear appears to have been clipped into a gap between the lower ear and the lower lobe. Is that a new White House fashion statement....ear clipping?
I'm pretty damn suspicious. I'm thinking that the Salon/Times (Slimes) need tin foil hats.

Agree, but basically it's none of my or anyone else's business what the bulge is.
BINGO...."ding ding ding...we have a winner!"
could it be a rifle plate?

I think you're right!!!!!
it is W's "good or evil" switch
I think Kerry's jealous because his bulge sits on top of his shoulders.
Kerry's bulge looked a little deflated last night, IMO.
How much do you wanna bet this is a doctored photo, like certain ANG documents from cBS? HMMMMMMM!
Have some common sense. If you were going to have a receiveron you, would you put it there?
Do you know where a Secret Service agent has the receiver?
Glad I got to your post before I posted. I was wondering if he had an outlet in his back that enabled him to pick up messages without an ear piece.....
Guess the nitwits never thought to cover just how he was receiving messages.
That was my thought as well. You can't take any chances these days.
It would be absurd for the White House to admit he was wearing one of these all the time, but in light of the rumors of al Qaeda assassination attempts, it would be very foolish not to put one on him.
Poor man. Serving God, serving the American people, working for the truth, and the forces of Satan want to kill him.
The obvious stretch between the President's shoulder blades as he hunched over the lectern exerted a slight upward pull in the jacket, also pulling in the sides further down, forming a bubble in the slack center just below the horizontal stretch and pulling the whole jacket into the center toward the bottom.
President's note to self: See tailor before next debate.
Actually they are just making fun of us for not being able to get the word out that Kerry's reach for the pen with his left (wrong) hand was a distraction from the note pad he got from his pants pocket in his right hand. Yep, they got away with one.
Look closely at this photo... the line forming the top of the box or "T" is a white fuzzy line... without that line everything looks normal. I say it was added to the pic.
Of course.
