You're right. Is he that shallow that he would judge people's wealth by their clothes ? Or maybe he was looking at their hair and thinking "Hmmm, sure doesn't look like one of those $1000 haircuts I get."

Also something I've not heard someone mention - what if you make say $150,000 and expect a raise over the next few years?

I loved it when he basically looked at the audience and said

"I can see that you all are Peeons"

When I heard that, I immediately thought about how he had pretty much offended everyone in the audience with that remark. It was like they were all lacking in some way that was evident only to JF'nK.

He could tell there were no professionals in that audience. He could tell there were no small business owners in there. He could tell there were no Real Estate agents or account executives or college professors or property managers. He could tell there were no people who worked two jobs to make ends meet.

Maybe John Edwards was channelling their thoughts to Kerry.

I caught this, too. My immediate thought was "What a snob!"

I kind of forgot about that but now that I am remembering that, it was funny. What was he calling everyone? Low life scum. Kerry probably promised all the people, after the show, that he would move their trailer homes to a swing state.

Kerry must have learned to recognize the "common riff-raff" in "Elitism 101" at the Swiss finishing school.

That's what I was thinking. $200k is a lot of money, but it's certainly not crazy to think that out of a room of more or less random Americans, a few of them might at least come close.

Also ... was it just me? Or did anyone else notice that he directed several of his answers toward a black woman, Nikki Washington, when she wasn't the one asking the questions?

Looking down at people is a trait of privlige only enabled by being a billionaire. How can skerry represent the afflicted and victimized people he claims to represent if he looks down at them like they are meaningless pieces of poo? Kinda like his impression given about our allies in Iran and Afganastan. What a slam!

As someone in that group, who spent several decades in school and training, it's nice to know my reward is to be punished for success. By the way, as someone who's smarter then the senator, my response is going to be to cut back my hours so that I stay right at the 200k line. Not worth it to me to work so hard for less then 50cents on the dollar. Lifes too short.

Bush is right, the 200,000 at year cut off would KILL small businesses because they are typically S corporations and the income is taxed as an individual. Kerry would KILL where the MAJORITY of growth is for NEW and BETTER jobs.

I'm just damn glad that this was obvious to more folks than just myself. Limbaugh,Boortz,Hannity should have a field day with this gem come monday.

My wife pointed out something quite interesting following the debate. It appeared that W was being mobbed by people who wanted to say hello. Kerry was not. The camera angles were different, but it looked as though only a few people approached Kerry and that many of the people in his shot had their back to him and were trying to get close to W. Anyone else notice this?

Kerry: "...And looking around here, at this group here, I suspect there are only three people here who are going to be affected: the president, me, and, Charlie, I'm sorry, you too."

Kerry demonstrated his smug disdain for the 'little people' with that comment. He lost MANY undecideds with his arrogant snobbish tone and demeanor. The more Kerry gets televised, the better George W. Bush looks! Can we get MAXIMUM Kerry TV coverage for the next 22 days?

I think he was right in his assessment of the group. The audience was undecided, but if you make over 200k, you already know who you are going to vote for.
