Basically I told her I didn't need anybody to help me "evaluate" the news.

I left the Democratic party when I saw the media distort their reports of the Confirmation Hearings for Clarence Thomas. I watched the hearings carefully and realized MSM was lying to help the Democrats.

Maybe other honest Democrats will wake up today.

You left the Dems after Thomas' confirmation hearings?

It wasn't until NOW made excuses for Clinton that I seriously doubted the wisdom of my membership in the Dem Party...and revelations about the 'rentals' of Lincoln's Bedroom that pushed me away, forever. Looking at the hysterical pack of weirdos, thugs and prevaricators that the Democratic Party has become, I can say that my defection came not a moment too soon. And to think that I used to believe that those who complained about 'liberal media' were paranoid rednecks. I'm so glad I woke up!

I was betwixt and between right and left at that time. Bush 41's nomination of Clarence Thomas and Thomas' subsequent vilification was my first major experience seeing the way black people who weren't Democrats weren't really thought of having earned the right to call themselves black. Leon Higginbotham acted as though the late Thurgood Marshall's slot on the court was his birthright, and Cornel West said that he wanted a black man to replace Marshall, but not "the wrong black man." That made me think.

Weeks earlier, I had read a Jack Anderson column in which he said that the National Organization for Women had hired staffers to call everyone that had ever worked with Thomas, digging for something to "Bork" him with. I took it with a grain of salt, but between the Friday that was supposed to be the last day of the Senate hearings on Thomas and his vote the following week, Anita Hill was dragged kicking and screaming into the open by Nina Totenberg and Cokie Roberts (then working for NPR).

The way that the news coverage painted Thomas as guilty until proven innocent disgusted me. Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, and Howard Metzenbaum were treated as heroes, while John Danforth and Orrin Hatch were portrayed at grasping for straws to protect Thomas. For NBC News, Tom Brokaw actually had Catherine MacKinnon beside him as a expert commentator. She believed Anita Hill, and made no attempt to be objective.

By the way, while everyone was hot and bothered about Thomas, Antonin Scalia, every modern liberal's least favorite Supreme, just barely squeaked through the confirmation process with a UNANIMOUS vote. You don't hear many of those tenured Demos remind you that they voted to confirm Scalia, do you?

It was Reagan's first term that did it for me.

That was my final straw as well.

It's about the time I bailed, too. Keep in mind, I was a major liberal. I supported Jesse Jackson in a presidential primary. I was a big Al Gore fan. I was in college. I was taught liberal ideals. But as I started watching those confirmation hearings, and the way Biden presided over them, my eyes suddenly opened. I finally saw the hypocrisy they shovel out on a daily basis. And to hear the MSMs take on what I was watching was unbelievable. It was 180 degrees out of whack. It was frightening. I found a Rush a year later, and I felt total relief that there was somebody in the media who saw what I saw.

I grew up in Chicago under the first mayor Daley. It settled in me a deep-ingrained distaste for everything democrat. I had to register as a democrat while living there. Everyone knew that if you called the Alderman about a problem and they checked your registration and found out that you were a republican you would never even hear from them. Democrat machines are one of the most destructive entities on earth.

I left the Dem party at the same time, especially when the network news outfits began gloating months later on how their propaganda changed the polls to later favor Anita Hill's version of the events.

This hit home at the time because I had recently taken a Psych college course by a very COMPETENT instructor in which he continually stressed and warned all of us about the tax payer funded studies and research that had been done in order to find the best way to try to influence and direct the thinking of the American public.

When I saw the Media's attempts to spin the hearings, I could see his words in action.

I've never been a democrat, but I remeber back in the '60's and '70's watching demonstrations and riots on the 6:00 news. I used to get so angry watching Uncle Walter and the gang at CBS slant the news to paint a sympathetic view of the protestors and the authorities as bullies trying to squelch free speech. There was nothing we could do about it at the time except yell or throw things at the tv or turn it off. There were no alternatives!!

Today we have the internet, talk radio, email and call-in cable shows. They can't shut us up anymore and that scares them to death. They've lost the power to control the flow of information.

I was an Independent and I switched to Republican when I watched the Bork hearings...Kennedy's Judicial war room was actually prying into Bork's video store rentals and the MSM was deathly quiet...all the while that Metzenbaum and Leahy, both traitors to this country, were never called on the carpet...the corruption of the Democratic Party is a closely guarded secret of the MSM....as is that of their beloved UN...the anchors and journalists in the MSM are ideological jerks who want to control the outcome of this election for the good of this country....NOT...thay want to stay in power themselves and hobnob with the wealthy liberal elite of Hollywood and the Northeast...they get to go the best parties that way and feel quite important...as they massage each other to death over how caring they are.

............

Zell said "What happened to my party?"

The good and decent, old time democrats are wondering - I can tell you. I did an investigative piece years ago for a statewide newspaper. I wont go into it here...
but, for the past 30+ years, the socialists have conducted a deliberate and successful infiltration and takeover of the once decent Democratic party.
Kerry is a hollow puppet - the puppeteer is Kennedy.
John and Robert Kennedy wouldn't play ball and they were taken out. Teddy boy rolled over to stay alive.
The people that 'operate" Kennedy are intent on a one world government with the U.S. (that's US,folks,) will be controlled by all the little po-dunk, totalitarian countries of the world under the UN...who has already instituted a world court where our sons and daughters, husbands and wives, etc, in the military could be hauled up for trial. (Bush refused to sign on. Kerry will.
The UN wants world gun control (much easier to rule folk who don't have guns) and world taxes...Kerry has believed all his life that we should be under the wing of the UN - who will give us our grade on the Global Test. Well, he clarified his meaning the other day , He said, about the Global Test, " I didn't mean just Global, but elsewhere.)
Here come the Martians and leaders form other galaxies. Maybe these are those foreign leaders he says supports him?

syriacus says " I left the Democratic party when I saw the media distort their reports of the Confirmation Hearings for Clarence Thomas.

Calico Cat says "It wasn't until NOW made excuses for Clinton"

Those reasons are good reasons - they show the agenda of and to what levels the Democratic Party will go and the MSM is right with them. Very dangerous for this country, no matter what side you are on.
