"That's no truffle pig, that's my wife!"
BTW, small point. Everyone (incl. some publications) are saying he said "Would you like to buy some wood?". I heard, in seeing the scene played three times, "Need some wood?"
I stayed up late and watched it a second time last night, and I too walked away the second time realizing how one-sided it was. Bush had a strong message, stayed on the offensive (as Cheney did the other day), and handled attacks very well. He is no "great communicator", but the people do not expect that at this point.
It was worse than that. He said 1973 or so and then fumbled and said that 9/11 was 5 or 7 years later.
Go read the transcripts. Kerry was a mess.
George Bush ripped him a new one repeatedly.
I watched it 3 times and Kerry got the final "cheap shot"
a couple of times, but POTUS had already made his point.
Kerry behaved like the desperate candidate he is. He's going down.
Bush crossed the 50% mark in the Rasmussen daily tracking poll
and that was taken PRIOR to the debate!
Looks like those of us who worried about the Townhall format, worried for naught, thank goodness.
Also, how 'bout his rolling over the mod, Gibson, and taking over!
Get out of my way, Charlie, I AM the PRESIDENT, and I WILL take control!
Right you are.

The President knows Gibson is just another liberal for Kerry. Maybe President Bush felt Lehrer didn't play fair and the President wasn't going to let that happen again.
In the scenerio Kerry voted for - if Iraq had massive chem/bio and willing to use them on us, the outcome would have been horrific.
What Kerry is left with is nitpicking the war plan.
lehrer didn't give him a fair chance last week. I hope someone reminds him that Bob Schiefer is also a screaming lib...used to watch his FtN, but when he would do his commentary, he drove me up a wall.
Our President needs to do more of the same next week; get some rest, practice with someone who is not afraid of him, etc.
I'll be glad when this is over. I am a nervous wreck.
Kerry really stepped into it here and factcheck.org still hasn't got it straight.
From factcheck.org
Bush got a laugh when he scoffed at Kerry's contention that he had received $84 from "a timber company." Said Bush, "I own a timber company? That's news to me."[Notice that they didn't provide the punch line "Need some wood"?]
In fact, according to his 2003 financial disclosure form, Bush does own part interest in "LSTF, LLC", a limited-liability company organized "for the purpose of the production of trees for commercial sales." (See "supporting documents" at right.)
So Bush was wrong to suggest that he doesn't have ownership of a timber company. And Kerry was correct in saying that Bush's definition of "small business" is so broad that Bush himself would have qualified as a "small business" in 2001 by virtue of the $84 in business income.
Kerry got his information from an article we posted Sept. 23 stating that Bush on his 2001 federal income-tax returns "reported $84 of business income from his part ownership of a timber-growing enterprise." We should clarify: the $84 in Schedule C income was from Bush's Lone Star Trust, which is actually described on the 2001 income-tax returns as an "oil and gas production" business. The Lone Star Trust now owns 50% of the tree-growing company, but didn't get into that business until two years after the $84 in question. So we should have described the $84 as coming from an "oil and gas" business in 2001, and will amend that in our earlier article.
Maybe some day factcheck.org will learn that the Lone Star Trust is apparently the BLIND TRUST that Bush set up when he became governor of Texas. HE'S NOT ALLOWED TO KNOW WHAT THE TRUST IS INVESTING IN.
My husband and I looked at each other incredulously and said OR SO????
Pretty telling, is what it was.
You might be surprised at the number of people whose wealth can be measured in millions that shop at Target or other similar places. I know one guy, owns his own company, that rides around in a pickup truck, and not a new off the lot model either.
"I loved the line where sKerry said I can tell no one here makes more than $200K..."
I missed some of the debate. Did Kerry REALLY say that?
Yes I know people like that. LOL I know them pretty well.
What a fool!
My father in law once went shopping for a Cadillac for my mother in law in old overalls and a flannel shirt. The Cadillac folks wouldn't wait on him . . . so he went across the street and bought her a Lincoln. Paid cash.
He was just that kinda guy, he was very well educated (a former teacher before he owned his own business) but he couldn't be bothered to dress the part. (I miss him. But I hated to be standing near him when he was wheeling and dealing for something . . . he was such a hard bargainer I wanted to sink through the floor.)

Here is my take. On the first debate President Bush really didn't know which Kerry was going to show up. He found out Pit Bull Kerry came out attacking and Dubya was put on the defensive. After that first debate, Dubya gave himself s good talkin' to and decided he had to put Kerry on the ropes from the git go! In the second debate that is EXACTLY what Dubya did! He used Kerry's record to slice and dice Senator Windsurf! Bush has Kerry's number now and in the third debate, look for Bush to use the REST of Kerry's record to cut him into itty bitty pieces! GO DUBYA GO AND WE'RE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!
I agree..I was FURIOUS when I heard it. He wanted to force President Bush to admit mistakes and give Kerry the opportunity to attack our President some more. However, I think President Bush handled it beautifully.
This Kerry Resume is hilarious!
