CNN's Brown Suggests Bush "Apologize" for Bad Intel on Iraq
Media Research Center ^ | 10-8-04 | Medial Reseach Center

CNN's Aaron Brown opened Thursday's NewsNight by asking a question, the very posing of which suggested he believes the answer is yes: "Should the President apologize for the pre-war intelligence that was flat-out wrong on Iraq?" Interviewing a guest a bit later, Brown inquired: "Should the President do what Tony Blair did and essentially apologize for the intelligence?"

Pairing how Bush should apologize for Iraq with the question of whether Kobe Bryant's accuser should be identified, CNN anchor Brown posited in his "Page Two" comments at the start of the October 7 NewsNight: "Good evening, again. The program tonight is full of questions, and we highlight two of them at the top. Should the President apologize for the pre-war intelligence that was flat-out wrong on Iraq? That it was wrong is not a debatable point. We now know there were no weapons of mass destruction, the primary reason given for the war. Tony Blair apologized for the faulty intelligence. Should the President, in the midst of an election campaign, do the same?"

Brown brought aboard Bush supporter Jed Babbin, a former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense, and Kerry backer Dan Feldman, a former National Security Council advisor.

Brown to Babbin: "I do think to some extent both sides are spinning a little bit on what the report says. The President today said that Iraq still had, that Iraq had the means and intent. David Kay just said that's just not at all, at least on the subject of means, what the report says."

But Brown also pressed Feldman: "Dan, doesn't Senator Kerry have a problem here given that he looked at all this intelligence and he voted to authorize, and it makes it harder to argue with all of this as it comes out, doesn't it?"

Brown followed up with Feldman: "Should the President do what Tony Blair did and essentially apologize for the intelligence?"

Finally, to Babbin: "Do you believe, just a slightly different question, do you believe if the country had known that there were no WMD in Iraq, that the President could have convinced the country to go to war?"

Politically, I tend to agree. Bush should say, "It's true, we only found about 60 shells with sarin gas and (fill in the blank)." and continue, "So the question is, did we gain anything by waiting 11 years to complete the job in Iraq. We should all be concerned where the WMD are, that we all know Saddam had."

Its autumn 1944, we're halfway across France fighting a country that had nothing to do with December 7, and the press is convinced we're losing. How much is it going to cost? What is the exit strategy? What is the plan to win the peace? Where is the coalition? How could the president send our guys into battle without enough fuel, in tanks that are death traps against German Tigers?

Sure, Hitler is a horrible dictator, but Stalin is worse. Why does Stalin get a pass? In fact there are a lot of dictators in the world, why do we single this one out?

And European fascism has nothing to do with Japanese militarism, which is our real enemy, and besides, Euro fascism has a great deal of support in every country in Europe; we say we believe in democracy, but obviously only as long as the people choose what we want them to choose. They choose something else, and we bomb their cities to the ground.

And the real problem in Asia is not Japanese militarism, which is only a symptom and a response to a century of European imperialism. Their attack on our fleet in Hawaii may have been misplaced, but you can understand their anger, you can understand why they would lash out. And, in any case, we can't defend the world's biggest imperialist in Europe and then wonder why Asians would see us as a defender of imperialists and therefore a legitimate target.

And, in any case, when you consider our history of imperialism in Hawaii, and our abuse of its indigenous people, the way we steamrolled its historical institutions and culture, it is no surprise that their fellow Asians would strike a blow both symbolic and real at their oppressors. We owe it to the world to get our own house in order before we even think to interfere in anyone else's business.

Roosevelt owes it to the American people to apologize for his incompetence, which has led to the deaths of 10s and 100s of thousands of American lives, and he owes an apology to the thousands of families who have died under American bombs. And if American forces cross into Belgium, he deserves to be impeached.

On A day when it is announced that computer disks were recovered in an AlQaeda strong hold that contain floor plans and pictures of schools all across America Aaron Brown proves what a simpleton and socialist piece of crap he is.

That's strange. Kerry said that we would have won the War On Terror if only we hadn't let Osama escape from Tora Bora in December 2001.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen Osama since December 2001?
