As a movie buff living in Illinois, I went about my usual Friday newspaper check to find out movie times and new releases for this weekend. To my surprise, I found at least 5 "local" theaters are going to have showings of the new pro-John-Kerry "documentary" called, "Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry."
I guess it shouldn't have been as big of a surprise as it was; I mean, after all, my local AMC Theater was still showing "Fahrenheit 9/11" until about two weeks ago, despite the obvious empty theaters at that time.
But it still leave some interesting questions, in my opinion.
Among my biggest questions are, first, do they really expect this movie to make money? It obviously doesn't have the press power of Fat Bastard's mockumentary, and there has been little actual advertising in any papers or on television. Yet, my favorite theater seems to think that it will need four showings a day. I find this a bit odd; I mean, aren't even movie theaters in it for the money? It was no less than three weeks after the B-Science Fiction movie "The Chronicles of Riddick" came out that it was flushed from my local theater; I know because I was attenpting to see a cheap matinee of the film. But in reality, even this relative flop of a sci-fi film is going to outsell this new pre-election John Kerry push.
So why sush a widespread release and so many showings?
The other major question I have is: are we going to be reduced to this crap every election from now on? Is this going to become a four-year habit? That is to say, will we be subjected to more "Fahrenheit 9/11s" and "Going Uprivers" in the closing months of every elction campaign? It seems inevitable, and yet, it just makes me upset nonetheless.
With the release of "Fahrenhype 9/11,""Celcius 41.11,""Michael Moore Hates America," etc., would it be too much to ask for equal time? I mean, wouldn't even one theater showing one of these movies enjoy a Conservative boondoggle? I would think that it surely would. Perhaps the staying power wouldn't be very strong, but surely there's money to be made in the Conservative underground?
Oh well, just venting my thoughts. I guess "Going Upriver" must be up for a financial windfall that I just can't see or understand. I doubt it.
Less than 100 days is considered a long tour in a war zone?
My Dad had more time on the crapper on his sub making war patrols in the Pacific in WW2 than Hanoi John had in-country in Nam.
I spent more time in Saudi/Kuwait just TRAINING for the attack than sKerry had in VN.
What a weenie.
For betraying his country by meeting with the enemy, not to mention his betrayal of Vietnam Veterans.
If you haven't registered, do it. Then get out and vote before that pinhead and his nightmare wife get into power.
Who would want to waste their time and money to see another dull movie by long-time Kerry pal George Butler?
Welcome to Free Republic.
right - but have anyof you seen any showings of the new Reagan's war movie - what is the name p "the FAce of Evil"
I went to the local (Phoenix) Hollywood Video last night and happened to walk by the new release of Farenheit 9/11 that spanned 4 shelves. I counted and there were only 3 DVD's rented all the other DVD's were still there. Looks like fat-a$$ isn't going to be making much here on his propaganda.
and if the truth were known...Kerry probably went on less than 20 missions on Swift boats....He was shuttled from unit to unit....each taking a training and breaking in period....He was always a FNG! (f##king new guy)...and then to come back and think he knew what actually went on...pathetic!...but thats probably minor at this point...
Hell no. The old man was standing gang watch for his sub on Guam, when Japanese troops were still roaming the island! He did not shoot any Japanese but did shoot up the Destroyer's mascot (ship berthed near them) taking a piss in the bushes at zero dark thirty! LOL!
He was a nasty pogue then and still is.
F'in WANNABE.
In the words of ManoWar
"with dreams to be a King
First one should be a MAN!"
Kerry never WAS a man.
My Dad was in the South Pacific, too, commanding an LST. Thank God for them.
LST=floating bomb.
Your Dad had big cods. Took big nuts to serve on ships like that, subs, DD's, etc.
There's a good review of this movie on the National Review Online site today.
In short: the maker may have intended it to be complimentary to the Dem candidate but it may turn a lot of people off. It's clear that K's thinking was formed by his anti-war activities and they are still the foundation of his philosophy.
Move On PAC said that it had a deal with Mirimax to include Issue Ads on the DVD of F9/11 so as to flaut CFR. This is Agitprop that would make Lunacharsky proud.
I think it should have been called "Up $hit Creek Without a Paddle".
