I hate living in western Oregon and am seriously contemplating moving to another part of the country.
I prefer more sunshine, less cloudy days and a conservative majority.
Any advice is kindly regarded.
The south Texas coast, near Corpus Christi, isn't too shabby. There are a lot of small towns just north of Corpus that allow you the convenience of being about 45 minutes from that city. Rockport, Fulton, and Lamar come to mind. Fantastic bay views, no hurricanes (this year anyway), access clean Gulf beaches, shorebirds, art galleries, windswept oak trees, rich history, etc etc. I could go on forever but I'm starting to sound like a retiree! And, it's Bush Country. Home values & property taxes have steadily increased in the last decade but otherwise the cost of living is reasonable.
We've got to oust the Democrap mayor here in Lexington, but other than that it is one of the best "small" big towns I've been to.
I had previously lived in west Texas for about 10 years. If you physically moved my house to southern California, it would be worth a couple million bucks, but it would sell for a fraction of that here today.
Housing is cheap and the quality is outstanding.
As an added bonus, there might be oil under your land.
We are in western NY. Don't move here. Although we enjoy 30 acres of beautiful countryside with tough winters the liberals in this state ruined it with punitive taxes. We too will move to a friendlier place. Kind of sad after 41 years. NY taxpayers actually pay into the state's teachers union members' pensions -- it is NY law! The revolutionary war started for less. So my wife and daughter are looking at Wyoming. Somewhere close to Vice President Cheney. We'll settle for somewhere within 100 miles. They have great fishing and hunting too!
If you like Washington, except the politics, move to N Georgia mountains or western North Carolina
Do not move to Maine. Antibusiness, run by RATS and high taxes. And LEFT, LEFT, LEFT!
You got that right.
Santa Fe, Galisteo, Tesuque, etc. are infested with educated people. Whack jobs, I call them.
Opera, art and liberal politics.
Rest of NM is not so bad, though.
Georgia, as long as you are outside the perimeter (Atlanta).

Nowhere in Illinois....I wanna move too!!!...:(
Move south of Roseburg and all will be well. Four seasons and yet a mild climate south of Grants Pass. Very similar to Napa without the Yuppies. Everything south and west of Eugene and Portland is Bush country. I wouldn't live anywhere else, course I firmly belive in the 3 S's.
Weather can be wacky at times but not too different from other places.
Don't usually have a ton of snow/ice. Can get hot but not too bad.
With in driving distance to big cities.
Mostly conservative, other than the pockets of STL, KC and Jeff City/Columbia, where the dead vote.
What towns are there in the hill country. Fredericksburg is the only sizeable town I see on the map.
Denver area is Kerry country (Californian influx) I'm a native and Republican forever! I live in the suburbs which used to be conservative F**** Californians.
No one has mentioned the obvious place you should be, the Free State, also known as New Hampshire. It is the place for every liberty-loving American to be. Why? Read all about it at: www.freestateproject.org.
I have been seriously contemplating Jacksonville. It seems to be an up and coming place. Any other details that you have to share?
Try Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Great lake, quiet, good housing and low cost of living.
First State to vote over-whelmingly to amend our Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman too! In our County 90% voted for the amendment.
I hear the Austin area is quite the boomtown and now has expensive real estate.
What about San Marco or New Bruansfel?
Harrisburg seems to be doing very well these days, from what I can determine. It came in as one of the most stress free cities in the US.
