Voter registration accepted after deadline in Fla. county Thu Oct 07 2004 20:15:03 ET
Theresa LePore vowed to close the Palm Beach County elections office at 5 p.m. Monday, the final day to register to vote in the Nov. 2 election, but a young man who arrived about 15 minutes after the deadline managed to drop off 550 applications on behalf of a group of Muslims determined to oust President George W. Bush.
Friday's PALM BEACH POST planning to report: LePore, no stranger to confrontations, said the man demanded she accept the bundles of voter registration applications attached to slips of paper identifying them as having been collected by Voting is Power (VIP), an offshoot of the Washington, D.C.-based Muslim American Society.
LePore said he showed up about 15 minutes after she locked the door to her office at 5 p.m., carrying a box of applications. She said she told him her office was closed but he could mail the forms as long as they were postmarked by midnight that night.
But, she said, he wasn't satisfied, and managed to slip inside the lobby when someone left.
"He started hollering about disenfranchising people," said LePore, who took the box after he thrust it at her.
"Then he started saying, 'You're all alike,' or something to that effect, and 'It's better in New York,"' she said. "And I said, 'Why don't you go back to New York?"'
The man did not identify himself.
LePore, who said she also let a few individuals turn in single registration forms until 6 p.m.
Developing...
Developing...
Those registrations are proably from illegals or dead people. Incinerate them!
We must remember that Ms. LaPore is Democrat.
I'm not part of the "Rats steal elections" crowd here. But this is a really egregious case. Bush personally should order the FBI to "correct the situation" if nobody else will.
I am shocked that something like this would happen in Floriduh! (/Sarcasm}
Democracy under attack by George Soros...When will the Democrats wake up and realize they are being played for fools..
Scary!
Bush needs to stay out of it - no need to incite the lefty base and Afro-American voters down there any more than they already are...
Having said that, I wish sometimes that we had groups who were stuffing the ballot too... I know that doesn't do anything for the moral high ground, but unilateral disarmament is getting old...
There she goes again!!!!
FYI............PING
When it's too late I'm afraid
Rules are not binding on Dems.
They look upon them as "suggestions" to be followed only if convenient and to their advantage.
"LePore, who said she also let a few individuals turn in single registration forms until 6 p.m."
Umm... why? She should be arrested just for that. She has abused her office.
I wouldn't worry...all of the ballots are likely to be thrown out anyways...the chance of the people actually being American citizens? Unlikely.
Is this going to be stopped??
They may have made a mistake in handing them over to LePore. I believe she became an independent because of harrassment at the hands of democrats in 2000. (she wouldn't cheat for them) If she were dishonest she would have kept her mouth shut about these registrations.

So, let's see, you can break the law in FL as long as you demand to do it?
Interesting State.
"Bush needs to stay out of it - no need to incite the lefty base"
I'm not saying he should get publically involved. I'm just saying that with a Republican Governor and President, there is no reason for this to go uncorrected now that it has been admitted publicly. If Jeb and Dubya both let this go... then unfortunately the Republicans deserve to lose. Why should I waste my time to go to the polls if they wont even correct the most obvious case of voter ineligibility?
Have this people no understanding of a deadline!!!! I am sick to tears about this disenfranchised crap. If they are too stupid to check the citizenship box or get the forms in on time then they are too stupid to vote. Since when is being stupid a protect civil liberty.
