Thank you . . .
. . for contacting me to express your disappointment with my recent vote regarding the assault weapons ban. I appreciate you taking the time to share your views with me.
I share your support for Second Amendment rights. However, law enforcement agents across the state have made it clear to me that keeping guns such as uzis and semi-automatic machine guns off our streets will help make our communities safer. Organizations such as the Police Officers Association of Michigan, which represents over 10,000 law enforcement officers, have asked that the assault weapons ban be renewed to keep our streets safer. I respect the opinion of those who feel strongly in favor of assault weapons, however, I believe the judgment of trained experts from our law enforcement agencies provide a compelling argument to do what we can to protect our Second Amendment rights while keeping our neighborhoods and children safe from military-style weapons.
Again thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please feel free to do so whenever I may be of assistance to you or your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
I don't store my semi-automatic machine guns on the street. I keep them next to my nightstand.
Yes to your first question and your second question is due to the highly populated socialist/Union pockets of Detroit, Flint, Saginaw and Bay City that pretty much control the statewide vote.
FWIW, Spencer ABraham, who was replaced by little Debbie was a Republican who was as usless as tits on a boar hog........and guess where he is now.
About as fruitful as writing Levin....... Forgetaboutit and don't waste your time! They know they've got the unions in their back pockets now, at least Levin does and if little Debbie doesn't yet, Levin will teach her the ropes and she will soon have a lifetime job to rival Levin's.....
Are they that stupid? Yes, most anti-gunners wouldn't know a pump shotgun from a M2 and since thaty know that "guns are bad" then all guns must be bad.
She's up in 2006. We're going to have a good year in Michigan that year- we can get rid of Granholm AND Stabenow!

Do you think Mike Rogers has enough state recognition? I think someone like Candice Miller, the former Secretary of State, has the recognition and, she was very effective in cleaning up the mess that Richard Austin created. Most people who visit the DMV see a marked improvement from what we were used to. But I do agree we have to find someone to beat Stabenow and Granholm.
Not stupid, just ignorant. They will counter this (if the gaffe is reported) by utilizing Clintonesque Weasal Words.
"All guns are machines, so all guns are machine guns."
But you are right of course; semi-automatic means "not a machine gun", since each round must be fired by pulling the trigger, as opposed to fully automatic, which is a machine gun which will fire a burst with the trigger held down.
As you probably know, the U.P. is one of the last northern areas where everyone is heavily armed. I have five semi-automatic weapons in my house, and I believe that I am under the average for the Upper Peninsula.
And I state this wishing that any Federal Government lurkers may be apprised of the state of things here.
By last count I have 12 firearms in my house, which I believe is also low for the average U.P. household. Violent crime up here is virtually non-existent, due to the holding of firearms in such numbers by citizens of the U.P. Another anomaly is that many U.P. residents have been packing handguns for years, despite laws prohibiting CCW, laws which have been recently overturned. Every cop I know up here supports CCW, despite what was written in the article.
Every criminal who has had a thought in his head about committing a burglary or a carjacking in the U.P. wonders whether or not some Yooper will put a 357 round through his head, and this has been the case for years; hence the low crime rate.
We ain't Wayne County. We don't screw around up here, and we're ready and willing to kill burglars and carjackers.
Getting rid of Granholm will be tough. She has approval ratings in the 60s. One possible candidate I've heard to run against her is Oakland County Sheriff Bouchard. Speculation has also led to the discussion of a possible run by Ted Nugent.
As for Stabenow, I hope Rogers runs against her. He's such a cool guy. Other names that have been thrown around are Betsy or Nick DeVos. They don't have a chance.
I hope Candice stays in Congress and then Run for governor in 2010, if Granholm gets a second term. But, yeah, I can't stand Debbie.
As for the great Governor Engler, he is a fellow at some Public Policy center in Washington or Virginia. He has no desire to get back into politics. Too bad, he's the greatest Governor Michigan has had.
This might be a thread for the HellGlock picture.
Thank you . . .
. . for contacting me regarding the renewal of the federal assault weapons ban. I appreciate you taking the time to communicate your views with me.
As you know, the assault weapons ban of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 expired on September 13, 2004. Senator Dianne Feinstein has introduced the Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act (S.1034), which would make the ban permanent.
Similarly, Senator Frank Lautenberg has introduced the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003 (S.1431) which would increase the scope of firearms defined as assault weapons, and also make the federal assault weapons ban permanent.
Currently, both these bills are pending in the Judiciary Committee, of which I am not a member. I share your concern about protecting second amendment rights and assure you that I will keep your strong views in mind if this important matter should come before the Senate for consideration.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to do so again if I may ever be of assistance in the future.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
Surely everyone knew she was stupid - isn't that you elected her?
Yup, she's a senator. Michigan's a sick state when it comes to electing 'em. And, BTW, she's underqualified to be a volunteer library aide and/or candystriper
Bump for the soon to be number three dem.
