I spent my formative years in Florida 1955-1959 and the police in this state are not a very forgiving community oriented type of force.

Seems they haven't changed you are guilty as charged unless you can prove you are innocent.

The boy was 4'10" and 8yrs old..

The officer is bound by law and dept. policy to do what he did, and since there was a complaint he had to act.

The mother of the other kid caused the arrest by filing a complaint.
I also don't know how badly the other child was beaten and what his age and size was....

First grader Isaac Sutton was arrested Monday by a Tallahassee police officer after a fight with a 10-year-old boy in his neighborhood. A police report says Isaac punched and slapped the other boy during an argument.

Have to wonder if this is a fatherless household. It wasn't the officers job to determine guilt or innocense regarding the arrest. The officer does determine if probable cause for arrest is present. I have to wonder why the kid couldn't be released to the parent instead of being booked.

As the whole story has not been reported, and this child may turn out to be a bully preying on children smaller than himself, you still do not handcuff an 8 year old!

It is old; but more and more common. . .it seems (!?). Still; even an eight-hear-old; 'problems or not' should not be arrrested.

As much as I hate to, I must disagree. If I were a LEO, I would definately handcuff ANYONE I was transporting. An 8 year old kid will kill you faster than an adult. And I am sure the kid already knows how to use a gun and knife. This kid, who obviously doesn't have any respect for law and order much less other people, has already shown his ability for violence. HAndcuffing is definately merited, and probably dept. policy.

This is the new old days when psychiatiricly ill children are MAINSTREAMED. These children can be out of control and dangerous. I would handcuff the little darling if he were seriously out of control.

I agree. Since the incident was serious enough to require police involvement, the officer was obligated to ensure the kids were identified and notification of parents.
What does everyone expect? To just let the kids run off? Boys will be boys?
