At Right Moment, Edwards Pounced (Breslin raging drunk alert)
Newsday.com ^ | Wednesday, October 6, 2004 | Jimmy "Glenlivet" Breslin

Posted on 10/06/2004 5:53:57 AM PDT by O.C. - Old Cracker

Somewhere around 9:45 last night, Richard Cheney, vice president of the nation, turned and said to Sen. John Edwards, Democratic candidate, that he missed big votes in the Senate and had the worst attendance record. Cheney said that he sat as the head of the Senate and was there for practically every session.

Cheney spoke in a deep, dull, confident voice and said things like, "al-Zarqawi has been in Baghdad before the war and after the war." As if all this smoke and fire and reports of dead soldiers and dead babies are an illusion.

Now he said snidely to Edwards, "The first time I met you was when you walked onto the stage tonight."

Until this point, Cheney had attempted to become a sitting advertisement for smugness. He sat and threw out shadings and plain lies at times and tried to make it look reasonable. Edwards, the experienced trial man, was supposed to bury him and this was not happening.

Well this may be a little subtle but, I thought it telling when Senator Gone was required NOT to say kerry's name, that he said it twice, proving to me that he was using sound bytes he had memorized.
It shows he has a problem thinking on his feet.

... he probably writes better drunk....

I don't know if Breslin drinks, writes while drunk or writes better drunk. I do know that his opinions are generally about as factual and worthwhile as those of someone who is a minute away from his most recent drink and a dollar away from his next one.

If the title offended you, I sincerely apologize. You are absolutely correct, I do not know Mr. Breslin personally and am in no position to comment on his drinking habits.

"Just because you don't like Breslin or what he writes, it doesn't mean he is drunk. In any case, he probably writes better drunk than you do sober."

Really, can you explain the following lie?

"Cheney said that he sat as the head of the Senate and was there for practically every session."

The Vice President said he was there on most Tuesdays, as President of the Senate, when the Senate was in session. He never saw little johnny there.

"For as long as I can remember - nearly half a century - this genetic liberal Democrat has been attacking Republicans."

His favourite target is actually the Catholic church and he has done much to highlight the church's scandalous behaviour over the past decades.

Some of the bozos here who've attacked him will probably have less marbles than he does when they reach his grand old age.

lol Please defending him is your choice but please there is nothing "grand" about him. Just shows we have a merciful Heavenly Father and it rains on the good and the bad.

"..against banning plastic toy pistols.."

You can't run on alcohol and bile and keep your concentration.

Edwards quote from the Debate:

"..EDWARDS: That was a complete distortion of my record. I know that won't come as a shock.

The vice president, I'm surprised to hear him talk about records. When he was one of 435 members of the United States House, he was one of 10 to vote against Head Start, one of four to vote against banning plastic weapons that can pass through metal detectors...."

What Edward's was speaking of was the attempt to ban Glock type pistols with their Polymer Receivers, in the climate of anti-gun hysteria ginned up by the usual suspects in slavering anticipation of another angle to grab guns.

"Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 - Public Law 100-649; 18 U.S.C. 922

"This 1988 legislation banned the production and sale of any guns that are undetectable by metal detectors and X-ray machines (ie: the mythical all plastic gun). The NRA helped to rewrite this law so as to narrow its scope, and exclude detectable polymer framed handguns like the Glock 17, the Taurus Millennium, and the Springfield XD. These pistols are now in common use throughout America by police departments, and civilians for concealed carry. So, even if there were an ‘all plastic’ gun somewhere out there, it would be totally ILLEGAL to Own!"

The law that was passed was an answer in search of a question.

"His favourite target is actually the Catholic church and he has done much to highlight the church's scandalous behaviour over the past decades. "

I never noticed that, but then I despise the man so much I can't stomach reading or listening to him. I remember him years ago on the TV circuit attacking Republicans and conservatives.

He isn't the only one to attack abuses in the Catholic Church, but I wouldn't tar the entire organization because of the errors of the few. It does have some very positive aspects like it official opposition to immorality and abortion. But in my opinion the current Pope is non-functional and consequently the hierarchy has lacked direction and instead of rooting out and punishing those bishops and cardinals and archbishops who covered up the paedophiles, they tried to sweep the dirt under the carpet and now its a mountain in their parlour that they can't hide.

There are a lot of conservative Methodists and Presbyterians, etc, but the leftist revisionists have seized control of THOSE religions and are fostering a theology which is antithetical to fundamental Christian doctrine.

As that guy once said (who was he??) "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Just at the moment Christianity needs strong direction and leadership in its battle with militant Islam - it isn't there. PRobably time for another "Reformation" of some sort by traditional Christians of all denominations.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Breslin's attacks on the Catholic Church are rooted in self-hatred of his European ancestry and a belief in the typical politically correct anti-western ideology of the far left.

Substance, please. What possible national security transcript was Edwards using that says we "had bin Laden trapped in Tora Bora" and the self righteous commentary about the drug lords of Afghanistan now helping us when they used to aid bin Laden. I doubt we ever did have bin Laden-- in any case, Edwards missed most of the intelligence committee meetings covering this so he has to be "reading" and, by the way Kerry voted against bunker buster tactical weapons that could have destroyed the cave structures up there. Edwards has never been in a place where the best way to get at your enemies is to enlist the tribes against him. Someone should read Kipling or at least watch "Survivor" (for sheer idiocy). Afghans are the best fighters you can buy-- and, in fact, you have to.
While it is true the Lord rains his bounty over us all- some of us he makes sure, as in the case of Edwards, that it is the rain of excretion. A national public disgrace of an ambulance chasing trial clinton trial lawyer and chihuahua dog to Kerry. Remember the Clintons? They are still calling the shots.

Brokaw called it when he compared Cheney to George Foreman. Steady, plodding, with one heck of a haymaker when he throws it.

---Cheney had voted against Head Start, against banning plastic toy pistols...---

I think the plastic toy guns reffered to were Glocks. The anti-gun people started circulating the rumor that they would pass undetected through through metal detectors and tried to have them banned. Breslin is either trying to pull a fraud on us or he's stupid or he think's we're stupid, probably all three.

---Edwards said this with a sudden vibrancy and a controlled resentment and the rest of the night was his.---

He must have gotten on a real buzz about this time or just plain passed out and made up the rest.

I wasn't aware that Glock manufactured toy guns.
