I appreciated her fair - and persistent - approach, which made Lehrer look like a fluffy partisan in comparison.

Well if I make a mistake, I will admit it. If I feel a news channel should admit their mistakes, so should I

I saw that too.

Edwards completely side-stepped the issue of France and Grermany being non-supportive.

I agree, and she was effective.

Edwards made a point to embarrass her on national television with his extra ten seconds or whatever, and that was really crappy. Nobody would have known, nobody would have cared, and it didn't change Cheney's slice and dice of John-John. Hell, Edwards could have spoke for two minutes and it wouldn't have made a difference. He didn't want to answer the question so he decided after ten seconds to let everyone know that he didn't have to - it wasn't his turn.

That was an intimidation tactic because he was pissed, but it didn't work.

One are one classy person, Fester, and I appreciate your courage and decency in posting this retraction!!

Thank you, I was just sitting here and I had a guilty conscience and just had to set the record straight, and do the retraction...

Yes, I thought she was good, too, and quite fair. I was really surprised. Plus, she had a much pleasanter manner and was much more attractive as a personality than Jim Lehrer.

I'm sure she said a few things that anyone of us could take issue w/ but on the whole, she did a very good job. She asked good questions but the candidates were the story last night, not the moderator. That, IMO, is the sign of a good moderator.

She watched Jim Lehrer give a wink and a nod to JFK during the first debate and wisely decided to appear unbiased. I've watched her host Washington Week enough times to know she's anything but objective.

Hey, Fest;

This just shows the difference between liberals and conservatives:

They want an edge because they need an edge. If the MSM is fair, we win. Of course, it's usually not fair, so it's a battle.

I think Gwen Ifill was very fair, which is a HUGE victory for us. It happens so rarely. We have to savor it when we get it. Of course, the rest of the MSM called it a "draw, " which means the VP kicked his rear end.

Exactly she put her JOB as moderator above her own personal politics and that is truely amazing, you go girl :^D

I hate to disagree, but I thought her questions were rather lame. I don't think they were biased, but I thought they forced the candidates to repeat themselves too much. And I thought the "don't mention the candidate's name" question was silly...although it did help John Edward's to look even sillier.

I agree, she was fair. I expected another blatantly partisan moderator, but apparently she has enough integrity to take her job seriously. Cudos Gwen.

I think she did okay. But three questions about AIDS (if I recall correctly) and not one about partial birth abortions or the filibustering of judicial appointments? Not much questioning of the senators' records.

Cheney did have his hands tied a bit on the healthcare and jobs questions. The big elephant in the room that no one is willing to talk about is the effect of illegal immigration on our economy and on our health care costs. The other big drain on healthcare costs is the fact that insurance used to be for catastrophic health issues but now has mutated to the point where people expect to pay just a $20 copay for everything. Aint no free ride, aint no reasonable way to solve this without telling people what they don't want to hear - you need to pay for more of your health costs yourself.

In other news, Cheney reminds me of a cartoon bulldog - in a good way.

Remember that we are enlisting the aid of France in other ways, and also Russia. Cheney knew that the moderator made the point, and I believe he did not want overkill because even though we cannot stand these bastards we still need to use them and beating the hell out of them now would not be helpful to our overall cause.

I think Cheney could have made his point without condemning France or Russia - he could have said that Kerry is promoting a plan that already is doomed to failure.
