Kerry says Franco-German troops unlikely
Washington Times ^ | 10/06/04 | Stephen Dinan and Rowan Scarborough

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry conceded yesterday that he probably will not be able to convince France and Germany to contribute troops to Iraq if he is elected president.

The Massachusetts senator has made broadening the coalition trying to stabilize Iraq a centerpiece of his campaign, but at a town hall meeting yesterday, he said he knows other countries won't trade their soldiers' lives for those of U.S. troops.

"Does that mean allies are going to trade their young for our young in body bags? I know they are not. I know that," he said. Asked about that statement later, Mr. Kerry said, "When I was referring to that, I was really talking about Germany and France and some of the countries that had been most restrained." "Other countries are obviously more willing to accept responsibilities," he added, as he took questions from reporters in a school yard in Tipton, Iowa.

"Ambassador Bremer differed with the commanders in the field," campaign spokesman Brian Jones said. "That is his right, but the president has always said that he will listen to his commanders on the ground and give them the support they need for victory."

National Security Council spokesman Sean McCormack declined to say what advice Mr. Bremer gave the president, but said Mr. Bush honored all requests from the "chain of command." Mr. McCormack described the chain of command as commanders in the field and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.
"President Bush made it clear whatever commanders needed they were going to get and that is what happened," Mr. McCormack said.

Like he needed to tell us? What a joke this idiot has become.

Yeah and it hopefully more then just Freepers are realizing this. Note floating around my office today.

Perhaps you can explain this for me? Sen John Kerry say the US doesn't only need to pass a Global Test before defending itself, NOW Sen. John Kerry says we got to pass a
UNIVERSAL test! Just what does he know that the rest of us don't? Is he telling us the X-files are real????? So is this Universal Test some sort of Federation of Planets thing? Is the Force with us do ya' think?

"But I can do a better job of protecting America's security because the test that I was talking about was a test of legitimacy, not just in the globe,
but elsewhere". John Kerry 10-04-04

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/04/kerry.global/index.html

Kind of wonder what he will using to do his "better job" of defending America since Kerry has voted against virtually every weapons system we got. Must figure
we are going to defend ourselves with Stern Looks and pointed fingers. HEY, I figured it out.

"Talk Loudly and carry NO stick".

Kerry flip-flop #47,658 aside...who would want French or German troops?

Why get troops from the World Champions of War Losers? Come on, last big war they were in, they were on opposite sides and they BOTH lost.

Well said.
We can't even hope for help from anyone since the dimz came out blasting W and our efforts in Iraq.
I believe that if the dimz had remained supportive, other nations might have helped, and our troops would not be in such danger.
The dimz have given hope and help to the terrorists by their words...

Another certified Kerry flip-flop.

flip flop or just flop? Just another huff-puff of Kerry's that even his "foreign supporters" took down. Oh I forgot, his foreign supporters are not just from the GLOBE, but "elsewhere" - have we heard from other planets yet?

The man attempts to conduct policy from a point of HINDSIGHT rather than FORESIGHT.

Wow, that is a great line. I would love to see this repeatedly used when describing Kerry's policy. Bush should say this at the next debate and point out Kerry has been wrong on many of his votes (votes that are taken BEFORE you know the outcome).

He provides all this material, if only Bush would use it. Hoping Bush hits Kerry about his lack of a plan and fact he has already insulted those allies with us in Iraq.

"...and more than two dozen other countries with troops on the ground, plus other countries are supplying intelligence and logistical support"

Hm... last time I´ve checked, Rhein-Main AFB, Bremerhaven,
and Ramstein, etc... still used to be in Germany.

"Then we have France and Germany saying they won't send troops, no matter who is in the White House."

Logistical support for Iraq is something different than
sending troops, but it`s still a support.
German troops are serving in Afghanistan, german Navy is
controlling the Horn of Africa, instead & for your guys,
while they are in Iraq.

The problem is that most Germans differ between the WOT
and the war in Iraq.
Sending troops to Iraq would be a political suicide
for *every* german party/goverment.

One "positive" aspect for you:

Most Germans don`t like G.w., but they don`t trust Kerry
either...

Mit freundlichen Grüssen,
Hun

Your Prez, last week.

"Why get troops from the World Champions of War Losers?"

Yes, why? ...or tell me an other reason for this ongoing
Frog & Kraut bashing.

"Come on, last big war they were in, they were on opposite sides and they BOTH lost."

Yeah.. the French against Germany, and Germany against
the rest of the world :-)

Greez,
Hun

Hm... last time I´ve checked, Rhein-Main AFB, Bremerhaven, and Ramstein, etc... still used to be in Germany.

Yes, they are American facilities that American military forces use/have used while defending the host country and many others during the Cold War and after. And yes, Germany is supplying support in Afghanistan, but its anti-Bush/anti-Iraq majority, like the U.S. Democrats and many other ostriches around the world, need to pull their collective head out of the sand and realize that Afghanistan and Iran are merely two of the fronts in the global war on terror. Separating Iraq from the WOT is akin to Democrats saying, "Yes, Bill Clinton is a habitual liar, and yes he lied under oath, and yes, he probably sent nuclear and satellite technology to China and nuclear technology to North Korea, but he's good at his job." We call it 'compartamentalization,' and its a pseudo-intellectual exercise that will ultimately lead to negative results.

The fact remains: The governments of France, Germany, Russia, and China, with the support of the U.N., did more to empower and embolden Hussein's murderous regime, and when the time came to clean up the mess, it was the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Poland, Italy, the "new European" nations, Japan, South Korea, and others who have done so. Given their share of the blame for the monster that was Hussein, France and Germany have done little to nothing to help solve the problem.

This isn't to say that I despise all Germans, but the government should look to Tony Blair for a clue on how to implement its backbone properly when confronted by a non-supporting public; and the seeming-majority of Germany's citizens have been coddled for too long by the protective bosom of the U.S. We've paid in blood and treasure for the protection of the world against the Soviets and tyrants like Hussein and a certain corporal whom I won't bother to name, and have received little if anything in return from the younger generations of France and Germany.

I am glad, though, that you said that Germans don't trust Kerry.

Freegards, und freundlichen Grüssen,
