Did anyone else wonder during Edwards long-winded AIDS answer if he'd ever taken health ed in school and was actually aware of how AIDS is spread? Because he was ranting on about preventative medicine... Yes that was Gwen's black women question. AIDS is spread, for the most part, by inappropriate personal behavior. It is preventable. Gwen wanted to know what the government was going to do about it. After all, it is Bush's fault because he doesn't care about black people.

"Or at least, the presidents after cheney may have had some input, something I (and any of us, for that matter) don't really know."
"h, so you are advancing the theory that the Prez is an empty suit fronting for Cheney. "
Let me get this right...we have a VP who is acting with more real power than any VP certainly in MY lifetime, and the mere suggestion that Bush might have discussed broad policy decisions with this same VP Cheney prior to implementation is interpreted by you as saying that bush is an empty suit?
Can you connect the dots for me here? WHere on earth do you get the idea that bush is an empty suit? Certainly not from my comments (the phrase "may have had some input" is not generally interpreted in that fashion.)

What gets me is that Kerry/Edwards consitently say "we have a better plan" and they would do the same thing Bush is doing but only "faster" and "better", etc.
Doesn't anyone else see this a childish thinking? What plan? Spell it out. How do you train Iraqi soldiers "faster" and "better"? What specifically do you mean?
I'm so sick of this country being populated by idiots that buy into that kind of simplistic rhetoric and it's riduclous that the Dems know they are the party of the totally stupid.
I say we propose stem-cell research on these people.

I lost my respect for him when he went to work for Bill Clinton after spending years complaining about his policies. He hasn't been the same since.

Cheney kicked Edwards' ass and handed Edwards' smarmy head on a platter to the remaining part of Edwards' body. CNNfn was running a focus group meter throughout the entire debate and every time Cheney spoke, the meter pegged toward the positive, when Edwards spoke, it went flatline or dumped into the negative.

Did anyone else notice that after the debate was over and the families were on the stage, that all the reporters converged on the floor in front of Cheney (even to the point that they were shouting over each other asking him questions and taking his picture) and then they showed you Edwards. He was standing on the stage leaning over shaking the hands of the 2 or 3 people standing there by him at the time. That moment was priceless.

Matthews: Thus far, after close to half a million votes having been cast on our online poll, contrary to what we've been saying here, the more scientific results of that poll are that 7 out of every 10 voters has Edwards winning tonight's debate.
Mark my words what the dems did tonight by overdoing it with hitting the polls is going to expose online flash polls as completely useless. Anyone with half a brain who watched this debate knows that Edwards got his clock cleaned. When they wake up tomorrow and realize they can't spin this into an Edwards win they will use it to attack Bush by saying Cheney did better.

That sounds right. I recorded it on my Dish DVR, but I don't have the energy to play it back tonight.
Anyway, it sure broke us up, 'cause he slipped and told the truth with a slip of the tongue.

And an independent source verified this about the Halliburton contract. It was VITAL to the troops, and no other company was able to do the job. How like these two opportunists to use the needs of the soldiers and the war effort to smear Cheney, implying he was probably getting some sort of a kickback from Halliburton for these contracts!

Cheney really had Edwards by the balls when he stated that Edwards took advantage of a BIG tax loophole - by filing as a Subchapter S Corporation to avoid paying $600,000 in Medicare tax.
Edwards' fumbled response and facial expression was clearly one of guilt and hypocrisy.
Edwards' syrupy-sweet closing comment about his Dad learning math on television just about made me puke. He's just another slick Willie. Consider the similarities between him and Clinton (slick, dishonest, and good-looking so that shallow, politically-ignorant women vote for him).
To: Howlin
Here's my take. Now keep in mind that I had to listen in over the radio. But it seemed to me that the big moment was when Cheney went after Edwards for his absences from the Senate, noting that the debate was the first time the two had ever met. That one was a real stinger.
Compare tonight's big one-liner with the defining moments of the VP debate from 2000: The little back-and-forth joke about Lieberman going into the private sector and how Cheney should help him do so. During the whole debate four years ago you got a sense that Cheney and Lieberman were gentlemen who respected each other and were there to articulate their differing positions and opinions. The one time it got really negative was when Cheney went after Lieberman's becoming a yes-man for Al Gore, and yet during this "attack" he also expressed that he felt bad having to take up this line, that he really respected Joe and was genuinely concerned over what seemed to be his abandonment of principle.
Compare all that to tonight's debate. There was no congenial, gentlemanly sense of respectful disagreement. You got a sense from Cheney that he outright feared an Edwards vice-presidency; the contrast of his respect for Lieberman with his blatant, unapologetic unfamiliarity with Edwards could not be more striking.
Edwards won't carry the South for Kerry, not even North Carolina, and tonight he forfeited his other supposed "advantage," his "pretty-boy" charm. Johnny boy may not have been a buffoon, but he was generic at best, and when you're up against Dick Cheney that's not going to do.

No, the LOWEST moment was when Edwards said, "that empty chair at the dinner table because he/she is in Iraq"...
That was despicable!!
