Although I did not run Boston in 1991, just qualifying for it was one of the milestone events of my life.
Kerry, once again, is a liar....
Good point. You did have to run qualifiers and you had to break 3 hrs in order to qualify to run the Boston in the 70's. This was at the time of Frank Shorter and 2:09 time to run the 26 mile, 385 yard event. You couldn't just stroll into the pack because you were a local.
That's what I was thinking. The marathon has qualifiers. Not just anyone can walk in. Not even Mr. "Do you know who I am?"
I suspect Kerry's full of crap. Nobody just runs a marathon. It takes dedication...running regularly, practicing a certain way. And nobody forgets. If you run a marathon ONCE it will be especially "seared" in your memory, it's that tough and therefore that much of an accomplishment. Typically, runners are very proud of it, never forget their time let alone the date...my impression is that runners who are advanced enough to tackle a marathon tend to get fixated on details: time, pace, training methods, shoes, etc.
This reminds me of a Used Car Salesman. You mention one thing about your personal life and he is all over. Yea, you lived in "Podunk Missippi?" I had an aunt from Podunk. Great place, say you ran the Town 5K for cancer, well I ran the Boston Marathon. Great run.
Or a guy that applies for a job with a padded resume. When he gets caught, he gets fired.
Qualified for
Started
Participated in
Nowhere does it say FINISHED!!!! This guy is a piece of work.
Because Kerry has a history of lying about such things I believe it never happened.
But don't waste much time. The MSM has shut down any questioning of these blatant lies, like the Cambodia question.
For Bush, his National Guard records are gone over with a fine tooth comb. Kerry gets a pass.
True marathoners are obsessive about it. My husband has qualified for the 2005 Boston, but all he thinks about while training for November's Richmond Marathon is whether he will beat the Boston (2006) qualifying time for his age group. Believe me, Kerry is no marathoner!
I only ran one marathon. It was Honolulu, Dec 7, 1980. I finished in 2,929th place with a time of 4 hours 5 minutes 15 seconds. The men's winner was Duncan McDonald (2 hours 16 minutes) with Frank Shorter second. Patty Lyons Catalano won for the women. There was a torrential rainstorm maybe an hour into the race for forty or fifty minutes, then it got hot and steamy as I was struggling down the last several miles from Hawaii Kai toward the finish line in Waikiki.
I have trouble imagining that I would forget everything except that I once ran the thing, twenty-something years ago.
There should at least be pictures of this....last August, he finished the 110-mile Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, a bicycle race, in 6 1/2 hours. Does anyone remember this?
When was his second Boston Marathon
Kerry remembers his first BM.....he still has it....had it bronzed...it's next to his first silver star
Exactly. Anyone who had successfully completed the challenge (and agony) of running 26.2 miles would remember the year and their time. Completing a marathon (especially one as famous as Boston) is a memorable event, verging on life-changing for some. Heck, even runners who have completed multiple marathons over the years can probably tell you the date and their time for any given race.
New Balance 320's, trained at 10 mi per day all year long and 15 mi/day 60 days in advance, carbohydrate loading all the time... You don't just up and decide to run 26.25 miles a day or two in advance.
You are not kidding, I lived in Massachusetts for 19 years, had a friend who ran in the Marathon, in 2001, and 2002.
Well, we came darned close the last time around.
Oh geez. This guy is SO AWFUL. How can anyone listen to word HE says? Does he not realize that all these statements and claims he has made can now be checked out by nearly everyone? It just boggles the mind.
Or the year he went to Cambodia...
HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHEN YOU RAN 26 MILES IN A DAY!!
honestly the boston marathon is a huge event...if i ran it i would be able to tell you all about it ....and be happy as pie to do so. I def would know when i ran it etc. There shouldnt be a mix up of dates
did he or didnt he?
