UPDATE: Shots fired into Knox Bush/Cheney headquarters

An unknown suspect fired several shots into the Bearden office of the Bush/Cheney re-election campaign Tuesday morning.

The headquarters are located at 4618 Kingston Pike, next to Noveau Classics and in the same shopping plaza as Long's Drugstore.

According to Knoxville Police Department (KPD) officers on the scene Tuesday, it is believed that the two separate shots were fired from a car sometime between 6:30 am and 7:15 am.

One shot shattered the glass in the front door and the other cracked the glass in another of the front doors.

There were no witnesses to the shooting. A customer at a nearby dry cleaning store noticed shattered glass on the sidewalk in front of the headquarters and called police.

Volunteers and staffers at the campaign office say they have no clues as to who might have committed the crime. However, they add that the shooting makes them even more enthusiastic and energized about working for their candidates.

"If I have to sleep here (at the campaign office) now, that's what I'll do," says volunteer Suzanne Dewar.

In an unexpected twist, a bank directly across the street from the headquarters was robbed just as KPD officers were busy investigating at the scene of the shooting.

Its getting really bad in WA state where Kerry supporters have tried to run my boyfriend off the road because of his BUSH bumpersticker, and they broke open the State Repub. Doubt it was an "organized event". However there are those who will be very upset if Bush wins.

This is totally organized. It's part of the effort to portray themselves as unhinged and it's as much a warning to the good folk who get up and go to to work everyday, that if you don't elect Kerry, all bets are off.

They did that here in Gettysburg to the GOP Headquarters:

(1) Fired pellet guns at the plate glass windows

(2) The night of the 1st presidential debate, someone threw 2 beer bottles through the front plate glass window, created a massive hole and shattered the glass

(3) This weekend drew graffiti on the windows

Our local liberal paper only reported the incident about the broken glass in a tiny paragraph buried in the police/crime section, and did not report the graffiti at all -- even though they were called and emailed. I hate our local paper, the Gettysburg Times! For a town this small, the incidents should have been on the front page (instead of news about the apple harvest).

I think a lot of Democrats (Lieberman, Zell Miller, etc) are silently appalled at the campaign that Kerry is running. If Kerry looses it could mean the end of the Democratic Party as we know it to the benefit of the Republican Party. At least that's what I hope for.

A friend of mine loves to send me anti-Bush emails.

I have a friend who occasionally likes to do the same thing. The last one she sent was replete with statements like "Everybody knows", "Religious war", and "Bush lied".

I basically took her to task, asking her to prove her statements and back them with fact. To get her started, I supplied her with several links to news reports to refute some of the other claims she made. I have not heard from her in three weeks.

It took me a couple of hours to put the email together, but I think I got my point across. I don't like receiving this kind of garbage in my mail and if a sender is going to take the two seconds to hit the forward button, I am going to take as much time as necessary to make sure that friend knows better the next time she has that bright idea.

If this damamges the friendship, I can live with it. I cannot pretend to be something that I am not, only to save a friendship.
