HAMPTON, New Hampshire (CNN) -- Sen. John Kerry on Monday lambasted as "pathetic" scaremongering, Republican criticism of his comments during last Thursday's debate in which he said the president's decision to go to war should pass a "global test" of legitimacy.
Asked during a town hall meeting in Hampton to explain what he meant, the Massachusetts senator said, "It's almost sad; it's certainly pathetic, because all they can do is grab a little phrase and try to play a game and scare Americans."
"And if they were honest enough to give America the full quote, which America heard, they would know that I'm never going to allow America's security to be outsourced. That's the job of the president.

"And if they were honest enough to give America the full quote"
Which would honestly show that he flip-flopped in the span of two sentences.
If he really meant what he says now he wouldn't have added the "global test" qualifier. I can't believe his handlers told him to do that, he didn't in his practiced Convention speech. I think it was an off-the-cuff remark, an insight into what he really thinks.
Cheney is going to shread Edwards. His utter defeat will be seared--seared in the minds of all Americans. ;)
Like usual he is attempting to straddle a fench. Kerry is a "globalist" who cares what the rest of the world thinks. Even, regardless of what he maintains, if it would not be in our own best interests. Kerry has to maintain a fascade of "americanism" while tossing out little catch phrases like "global test" that liberals understand.
Bush is an American. He is loyal to his allies and will cooperate with the "larger" world community to a point. However, when the "world" won't act, President Bush is not afraid to act alone. Some (i.e. Kerry) call this foolish, others (i.e. myself) think this is what makes the President a great leader.
Yes.
If Kerry had been president in 2001 we would still be debating with the French and Russians in the UN about what -if any - action to take against Saddam (assuming Kerry would even consider taking action to begin with). If there had been a campaign in Afghanistan at all it would have been perfunctory and involved air strikes only - no ground troops - and the Taliban would still be in power. And heaven only knows what the islamofascist terror groups would be doing as they would have suffered (at best) only moderate disruption of their organizations and plans (though I am sure a whole bunch of them would have been indicted in US courts for murder, arson, etc.). In the meantime Libya would be busily developing nukes, Khan would be selling nuclear technology to all and sundry and Osama would be trumpeting his victory throughout the Middle East.
Mr. Bush has not had uniform success nor has he conducted a mistak-free war. But at least he has taken EFFECTIVE action against those who desire to destroy us. Kerry would still be trying to get past that "global test" and working day and night to convince all and sundry that we would be right to attack those who plan our destruction. Which is an impossible task as the left in this country will never agree to such action and the French, Germans, Russians, Chinese, etc. will never support any U.S. action that might enhance our strength, security or power anywhere in the world.
John Kerry when you take the oath of office you take a an oath to protect America from enemy's foreign and domestic, you DO NOT take an oath to uphold our national security to a "global test!"
Yep. Funny, it isn't 'fearmongering' when the leftists try to claim that conservatives want to push granny out of the middle class, ruin our air and water, and suppress black votes. (All this without a shred of evidence, by the way.)
FLIP-FLOP or a mental disorder?? Scary sKerry scares the heck outta me....LET'S CONTINUE TO WORK HARD FOR W!!! On to Victory PJ warriors!!
He's right. His "Global Test" is pathetic. Now he wants to take it back. The truth accidently slipped out eh Lurch?
I hope Im not putting in old news, but the Communist Party U.S.A backs Kerry.(CPUSA.Com) Their website has 10 reasons not to elect Bush. How can it even be close?
His "Global Test" remark just harkens back to the early 1970's Harvard Crimson (IIRC) Interview where he stated his desire to put the US Armed Forces under UN control. Verbal gymnastics aside, he's got the same position he's had for decades.
Kerry's going to have to come to grips with the realization that a President's words carry a lot of weight. He'd better start learning that, but you know what? It won't pay off for him, anyway!!
If we base our assessment on English, it proves that Kerry has flip flopped yet again. (Finish the quote, and it is clear for all to see.)
So ... answer the question. If it didn't mean what the Republicans are saying it meant, what did it mean?
What did you mean?
WHAT DID YOU MEAN?
Answer the question, Senator. Don't be scared! What did you mean?
Shalom.
Then they need to fire back with class baiting, hit the fearmongering with the concept of the resolute struggle rather than wishful thinking in an apparent attempt to lull the terrorists with platitudes.
In fact, the entire dem campaign is buzzwords and banal platitudes.
Fearmongering? Naw, we are stalwart in facing the dangers. Those who cry fearmongering are afraid to face reality and the future. They want to pull the blankets over their heads and pretend that if only they breathe very quietly, the danger will pass and move on.
Are the flipping speech writers and handlers asleep at their jobs at the RNC? Didn't they learn last time to nail the language!?
WILL YOU PASS THE GLOBAL TEST?

Welcome, World Leader. We understand that you'd like to undertake some type of foreign policy action. In the past, this would have involved a great deal of debate and diplomatic activity (not to mention bribery) in Paris, Brussels, and on the west bank of the East River. In the interest of streamlined world government, we've developed this simple test, which should take no more than a few minutes to fill out, to get you quickly on to your next foreign adventure, should it meet all reasonable criteria for peace and international justice.
The test may be taken as many times as desired, as long as the billion-dollar test fee is paid each time (proceeds are split evenly between the office of the UN Director General, and the French government, to compensate them for the trouble and expense of designing the test). You will be billed upon test completion. Payment may be made via cash (dollars, please, in unmarked bills), credit card, Paypal, or under-the-counter arms contracts.

He had this to say in reply in the article:
"But I can do a better job of protecting America's security because the test that I was talking about was a test of legitimacy, not just in the globe, but elsewhere."
So exactly where else would he apply this test besides the globe? Mars? Titan? The Andromeda Galaxy?
Hello, Pigs in Space - you don't ask for permission to defend yourself - from Space Aliens or otherwise. You just give them a pork chop in the neck and kick in the groin and do what needs to be done.
Those are Dem words, the only kind they know.
Kerry was deeply saddened by the fact that the high holy days of the Shahgwallah Festival pre-empted coverage of his debate speeches on his home planet. And where he comes from, it's not little green men, it's tall orange men...
"This means, to any English speaking person, that all the promises in the first two paragraphs are CONDITIONAL on fulfilling the condition in the last paragraph. i.e. the global test and "proving it to the world". So if he can't convince the world, that we should preemptively attack say Iran or Syria, he will just sit here and let us be nuked."
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
And Kerry is also RIGHT.
A Global Test is.......PATHETIC and so is someone who thinks it's necessity.
