House told to alter intelligence bill (Bush Opposes Crack Down on Illegal Immigration)
The Washington Times ^ | October 4, 2004 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 10/04/2004 7:17:15 AM PDT by Goldwater4ever

The White House has told House Republicans that it wants them to remove provisions in their intelligence-overhaul bill that would crack down on illegal aliens' obtaining drivers' licenses, allow easier deportation and limit the use of foreign consular ID cards. The Senate's bill lacks those provisions, and as the two chambers race toward trying to pass a bill before the Nov. 2 election, the measures are a potential stumbling block. The White House wants those provisions out, according to a congressional source familiar with the bill. "They have expressed desire to kill some of the immigration provisions and gut some of others," the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Rosemary Jenks, a lobbyist for stricter immigration controls for the group NumbersUSA , who has been tracking the bill, said White House policy officials met with Republican staffers to urge them to remove the provisions, even though White House officials initially had signed off on those same provisions before the bill was introduced officially. "The White House was involved in the negotiations before the bill was introduced, and now, for some reason, it has come back and decided to insist that the main provisions, the most effective provisions of the bill, be gutted," she said. She said House Republican leaders appear to be standing firm in refusing the White House demands. A White House spokesman did not return a call for comment yesterday. ***

"This goes to the very heart of the entire conspiracy of 9/11," he said. "These people entered the country, got driver's licenses, used those driver's licenses to obtain the services they needed, and then used those driver's licenses to get on the plane."

What the H*ll is wrong with Bush? If any of this is true and word leaks out, he will not even have the slightest chance of being reelected. I am getting pretty friggin tired of Politicians selling our country to the highest bidder. And if Kerry does win, no matter what the "Kool-Aid" drinkers try to say, it's Bush's fault alone. Now I have to wonder if he is waiting to be reelected to pass this garbage.

Maybe what we need to do is toss out all the illegal pandering House members and Senators and put in some that will effectively tie Bush's hands on immigration, because he sure as **** doesn't have our well being in mind.

I'm one of those that said I wouldn't vote for GWB and I'll stick to my principles. I have absolutely no use for a "leader" that fails to recognize the major problem we have on our borders. GWB does not deserve MY vote.

I e-mailed my reps here in CT. through this web site. They all sent me an e-mail back saying that since it came through a third party they would ignore it. I went to their web sites and sent e-mail. I heard some pablum from my rep and nothing at all from Dodd and Lieberman. Politicians don't care what we think about this issue.

What the H*ll is wrong with Bush?

That's the 800 pound gorilla sitting in the middle of the Republican platform.

Mr. President: The wrong move at the wrong time for the wrong reasons.

My feelings exactly! Dubya is willing to throw away his reelection for what?

Illegals, Legals, Felons, Cheaters, and Dead People are sure votes for Demoncrats.

Check out the threads on the FTAA.....the same people that put Bush in office are just excercising their end of the deal. You're about to see over the next couple years an amazing attack on our Constitution, legal system, and way of life. Illegal immigration is just a conditioning process to let us know we're going to have a borderless, hemispheric union shoved up our collective butts by the business and financial interests despite our protests.

I might as well write in Vicente Fox on election day.

No need, he's already there, running the show.

If building larger government by means of expanded government benefits (prescription plan, education spending Kennedy style, ignoring immigration problems and national security) is your idea of the Republican Party then you can have it.

That's exactly what I decided when I registered with the Constitution Party recently. The Republicans have let us down.

But he already has the southwest sewn up, I thought. That's where most of the illegal aliens are, isn't it? If he's thinking of CA, where there is also an illegal alien problem, I'd say forget that. That would be cancelled out by the harm done by the W.H. stance on this issue in other states. And he's not going to win CA, anyway. Argggghhh.

"it looks real to me"

You may be more of a realist than I am.

Unfortunatly, politicians can afford to make these decisions and never have to suffer the consequences, because they and their families live a life insulated from the mainstream social problems we "little people" encounter daily (such as over-crowded schools, increased crime, language barriers and the dilution of labor wages.) I'm disappointed, but maybe this is a state issue. Maybe we need to get on our state representives case and deal with this closer to home.

Are you watching Lou Dobbs? What a mess. Bush is ordering congress to drop any decent provisions to keep out the illegals/benefits from a current bill.

Dan, all I'm saying is I will vote for Bush and I don't understand what the hell he's doing. I'm getting bored with giving him the benefit of the doubt.

About Freepers and Clinton....there were many times I said he didn't know what the hell was going on in this country and he didn't care that he didn't know. I'm having trouble believing Bush is that corrupt or selfish. But, I can't explain this illegal/border thing with him, I keep trying, but like I said I'm getting real tired of it all.

I understand your frustration. I share it. I wish Bush supporters would let him and their congressmen know how they feel about this. This isn't the first time we've had to educate and fight with our republican friends on FR to do the right thing. It won't be the last. They come around more often than not. And some of them just want to line their immediate pockets with no regard to all of our future. For some people that will NEVER change. And some of those are our "best" politicians. And that will never change, but we sure can't stop trying to keep them at a minimum.

Ummm... last I checked it wasn't quite 'the thing' to be FReeping Dubya.

Judging from the underwhelming response to Bush's Totalization Agreement I've seen here on FR, holding him accountable for his actions isn't quite 'the thing', either.

We're just a big happy new world order.

The world gets to do whatever they want and we pay for it.

Has President Bush ever given a decent explanation for his unwillingness to close and seal our borders against all illegal immigration? If he has, I missed it.

No, but I'm sure he had some mush-mouth stammering about a "US job for every Mexican" or somesuch last January when he unveiled his overt amnesty scheme (not to be confused with his ongoing covert amnesty - the Matricula card amnesty).

That's probably the best shot we have in any administration. You might want to check a poll just announced: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/
