Kerry Team Reassigned As Va. All but Conceded

RICHMOND, Oct. 3 -- Sen. John F. Kerry's top campaign officials in Virginia have been reassigned to work in other states, effectively conceding the commonwealth to President Bush even as the Democratic presidential candidate rides a wave of momentum nationally from his performance in last week's debate.
Susan Swecker, the Kerry campaign's state director, and Jonathan Beeton, the press secretary, were scheduled to leave Virginia on Sunday night, Beeton said. An additional 18 campaign staff workers were sent to help elsewhere, leaving about 10 paid staffers in Virginia.
Beeton said he would probably go to Minnesota or Wisconsin, though he said it was unclear exactly where the campaign needed the most help. He said he did not know where Swecker, a longtime Virginia Democrat, was going to campaign for the last month before the election.

Doesn't sound like Team Kerry thinks they'll get any bounce out of the debate.
Actions speak louder than words. Kerry is in retreat.
Not counting the chicken yet.
Saw the light huh??? rack up another one ...
Maybe they can work Jersey for Lurch. Start bailing.
Ken Hutcheson, the state director for Bush's campaign in Virginia, said he was not surprised by the Kerry withdrawal. "Clearly, this was coming all along," he said. "The Kerry camp has realized after numerous polls that the campaign is under water and has no prayer in Virginia."
What's left?
This is the kind of thing I'm watching for. I agree I thought this looks counterintuitive to the news I've been hearing from NewsWeek and Gallop. Freepers are watching and will let the world know how it goes.
No 8 point debate bounce in Virginia?
Virginia? Day 1 was wasted if the Kerry camp was there.
Kerry should not take any southern states, with maybe one exception. There are just too many good, patriotic AMERICANS down in the South....and they do NOT like the RADICAL LEFTIST DEMS!!!
Kerry blew 2 million on this state!
Virginia showed some close poll numbers earlier, and Kerry bit.
Virginia is a blackhole for Democrats, just as New Jersey would be for Bush.
Odd considering team Kerry thinks they are back on a roll...
even as the Democratic presidential candidate rides a wave of momentum nationally from his performance in last week's
Guess the reporters at Wholesale Propaganda haven't been following the polls? Kerry gained exactly .1 point from where he was on Thursday and his trend is DOWNWARD over the last 2 days. But hey, that would not feed into the DNC spin machine lie about Kerry "closing the gap" so I guess we shouldn't expect them to let reality get in the way of Horserace drama.
Presidential Tracking Poll: Bush-Kerry
Updated Daily by Noon Eastern Election 2004
Presidential Ballot
Bush 49.0% Kerry 45.4% Other 2.1% Not Sure 3.7%
Sunday October 03, 2004--The latest Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll shows President George W. Bush with 49% of the vote and Senator John Kerry with 45%.
These results are based upon a survey of 3,000 Likely Voters conducted Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday afternoon. As a result, just over two-thirds of the interviews were conducted following Thursday night's Presidential Debate.
Interviews conducted on Friday and Saturday show Kerry with a one-point bounce so far since the debate. However, in post-debate interviews, Bush still leads 49% to 46%.
The debates did little to change voter perceptions of the candidates' political ideology. However, following the debate, there was an increase in the number who say finishing the mission in Iraq is more important than getting troops home as soon as possible.
Six percent (6%)% of voters say they changed their minds following the debate. This includes 3% who are now voting for Kerry, 2% for Bush, and 1% who are now undecided.
Fifty-four percent (54%) of Americans favor leaving U.S. soldiers in Iraq until that country's political situation is stabilized. Only 29% think we can win the War on Terror without first achieving a stable Iraq. A separate survey found that 52% of voters believe the War with Iraq is part of the broader War on Terror.
The national telephone survey of 3,000 Likely voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports over the past three nights. Margin of sampling error is +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

All this polling news is worrying, but I'm inclined to agree with the Freepers who said that the talk of a ten-point Bush lead before the debate was exaggerated. Five points was more likely.
These new polls seem to have changed the sampling and adjusting methods to favor Kerry.
I think I'll wait until the dust settles. But I'm more worried about massive fraud at the polls than I am about kerry catching up to Bush because he persuades people to vote for him.
Hey, there are a lot of good, patriotic Americans in the NE, too. So maybe we're outnumbered by the libs, but that just makes us all the more patriotic.
But we're glad the southerners are so strong in their patriotism.
He was nuts to think VA was in play in the first place.
The only good news this week end.
