XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX

DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?

Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:

"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."

So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?

What did Kerry place on the podium?

Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.

[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]

A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.

"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."

Wrong. Bush went over to his podium and picked up his pen.

Another caller just said what you did. Does anyone see Bush pull a note out of his pocket?

I wish I had taped it.

"Let's see the proof on Bush having notes"

---I know you were responding to someone else. But for anyone to say Bush cheated is the most laughable statement I've seen in eons. Had Bush cheated he definitely would have done a hell of a lot better than he did Thursday night.

At first I thought it was a crack pipe or possibly a pocket knife in case they got into hand to hand combat, but after looking at it a few times I think it might just be a watch.

If it had been a watch, then Kerry's spokesman interviewed by Drudge would have said so. That said, my reading of the rules would make a watch, such a stopwatch to time himself, also a violation. Besides, even a dork like Kerry would not keep a watch in the inside pocket of his suit jacket, it would tend to make a bulge and droop. Gigalo John is more concious of his appearance than that.

He (Bush), pulled nothing resembling a card or paper from his coat? Then the caller to the Whitman show is lying.

This is really kind of pathetic, if it weren't so telling of character.

This is the kind of thing you get suspended for in high school, expelled for in college...in the logical progression of importance, I guess we'll have to kick him out of the country.

(I kid.)

Seriously though, how can anyone trust this man if he gets caught interviewing for the hardest job on the planet, while cheating with a grade-school crib sheet?

I don't agree with you that Bush bombed on the debate. Bush spoke from the heart, everything he said had substance. Meanwhile, Kerry's aim was to just "sound" presidential. The actual substance of what Kerry said was minimal. All Kerry said was "I have a better plan" but he never said what the plan was! What a manipulator.

Of course, the liberal media let him get away with it, knowing full well if they report often enough that Kerry won most people are so weak minded they will accept that as the truth.

How else do you think we ended up with Clinton and why do you think the threat of Hillary is so real? Think about it!

"I still dont see why he would risk taking himself down , the ENTIRE Democratic Party in front of the world if just one person spotted him with cheat notes.Thats be literally INSANE to risk on Nation Wide TV in front of millions"

You forgot one thing...Kerry IS insane! He was talking to the Commies during the Vietnam war. Anyone who does that is clearly not thinking in a pro-American manner and should not be head of this country.

You left out a very telling line from Drudge's story.

When pressed on the fact that even brandishing a pen from his jacket would have violated debate rules, the Kerry staffer laughed, adding, "See you at the inauguration, Drudge".

Pure arrogance, it says that the rules don't apply to Kerry, only wining matters.

When I watched the video I thought Bush may have taken something out of his jacket so I watched it over and over. He walked to the podium, picked up a pen in his left hand and drew it to his body, took the cap off and put it in his right hand and started writing. His body blocks a good camera view but watch it carefully and you'll see what I mean.

I watched it on the high res download that was posted a few hundred posts back.

this is bullshit!
pisses me off
a guy that wants to be the president of the united states can't even follow simple rules
that we got this controversy that we will probably never find out if that paper is a cheat sheet or not

i'm betting some votes go to gwb over this

That debate has been TiVO'ed by at least tens of thousands of people, as well as the networks. Do you know why there are no pictures or video of Bush pulling notes out of his pocket? Because he didn't do it, and I await ANY proof that he did.

Inspect the candidates for radio hearing aids before the next event.

Correction added: Inspect the Democrat candidates for radio hearing aids before the next event.

Bush didn't pull anything out of his jacket. You can see him approach the podium and pick up his pen, which, along with the paper, was placed there by the organizers before the debate.

Those zoom-in shots clearly show that Kerry pulled out SOMETHING!!

Thanks. Now look at post 914. Can you view the end of the debate and see if the Lurch pulled a device from his ear?

This is fun!
