XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX
DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?
Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:
"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."
So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?
What did Kerry place on the podium?
Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.
[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]
A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.
"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."
Developing...
Gee whiz...trolls desperately trying to bring up the rear.
"I think we're getting a little too worked up over this.
Even assuming Kerry broke the rules, the rules also state, "Neither film footage nor video footage nor any audioexcerpts from the debates may be used publicly by
either candidate's campaign through any means, [etc.]" The DNC has a video up and the RNC has a video up, both paid for independently and not endorsed by the candidates. Kerry does not have any new videos on his site, but Bush does. I can't tell if it actual debate footage, or quotes, but it certainly seems to violate the spirit of the rules.
And, if so, this would be worse than Kerry's acts. Watch for them to start screaming about this at DU."
That is...if you haven't already...
Well IMHO, Kerry is a devout Socialist, and we all know that Socialists do not feel the need to abide by the rules, only to make the rules.
This is Verry Kerry.
"Read on another site that Bush had a earpiece in his ear."
Show me a link of the video coverage showing that earpiece and I'll be satisfied.
I checked my tape and you can definitely see him pull something fairly large, larger than a pen, out his pocket and play with it a bit. Closer photos of it make it out to be rectangular in shape, definitely not pen or glasses, though both would be against the rules as well.
We should expect Dan Rather to hammer this issue right up to the election. Maybe we could then restore some of Dan Rather's lost trust.
I am reminded of the rules of contract bridge which stipulate that any prearranged methods of communication between partners, other than by means of legal plays, are absolutely and fundamentally cheating; if it is proven that a partnership used such methods, the cheaters are permanently ineligible for all ACBL events. Not some "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty--permanent expulsion.
There are some types of conduct where people are expected to try to skirt the rules a little here and there and see if they can get away with it. But there are other events where rules are supposed to be followed, and where pushing them isn't the conduct of a crafty Han Solo, but is instead the conduct of a cheater. Some people don't understand the distinction.
Vastly higher resolution video exists almost without a doubt.
A very large percentage of filming and archiving is done in high-definition D5 and DigiBeta, and has for years, in preparation for HDTV. I was working off of high-def D5 and DigiBeta recordings of live events a few years ago. We are talking an order of magnitude difference in resolution (never mind clarity) compared to the footage that everyone has had access to so far. This is the video from which crappy video streams, NTSC, and MPEG2 broadcasts are encoded from. If you've ever seen professional high-def stock degraded down to even DVD quality, you'll know what I mean. Hell, even standard broadcast distribution MPEG2 would be a major improvement in image quality, as that's generally better than DVD.
Judging the video footage that is available, if someone can pull the source from a high-def archive you will be able to extract high-res crystal clear shots of whatever Kerry is actually doing there, such that there will be little ambiguity.
A lot of organizations were shooting this event. I'm sure someone has high-res archive stock somewhere.
Amen
My question exactly.
You serious?
The fact that a candidate BROKE THE RULES is not important?
I agree it should not matter more than what he said, but come on....this is a flagrant violation of the rules and he thought he got away with it. He needs to know that he DID NOT.
Dear tortoise,
I suspect that should such footage become available, the higher-res stuff, it will show that the thing which is not a pen is either a small notepad or a piece of folded paper.
sitetest
They just went into Sandy Berger's pants!
We beat the MSM one time, we can do it again. We need FOX's help though. Now that Drudge has this headlined, and Fox has the footage, guess who'll be going over the footage carefully because of the possible scoop? Fox would have filmed from several angles, more than what was telecast. The final verdict might come from them. This is an interesting twist.
Luckily CBS News didn't have the camera control, otherwise they would have destroyed the evidence by now.
We can always hit them with the standard.."I'm rubber, you're glue"....It works for me.
Public humilation, because like Rather he has no personal humilation for cheating.
You said "I think this would finish Kerry, if true." It may finish Commy K if the MSM reports it, but I doubt if that will ever happen.
Jessie,
Do you have a link to the video showing President Bush had an earpiece, or is it just a rumor? I think you said you saw it on another site. Which one?
Dan Rather would be stating "This video is a Fake, because we have an unimpeachable source"his name is Michael Moore!
