XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX
DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?
Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:
"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."
So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?
What did Kerry place on the podium?
Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.
[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]
A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.
"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."
Developing...
I think the position of his hands looks as if it's paper (kind of flat)
That would explain the "wink" that some claim to have seen at the end of the debate.
It's Sunday. Drudge needs something outrageous to pimp his show, and Free Republic gave it to him.
Drudge will use ANYTHING to prime his audience for his radio gig.
Will the media cover it if he cheated? He had the questions in advance and notes with answers, and he still made mistakes!? I wonder if this is how he got through Yale?
Drudge has changed the headline to "DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE A CHEAT SHEET?"
Non issue is right. Just a little more insight.
YOU ARE RIGHT....WATCH IT CLOSELY, HE PUTS SOMETHING INTO THE PAGES OF HIS NOTEBOOK!!!!!!

Right at the start of the debate. On this video, you have to watch a commercial first, but the quality is good.
I said I thought it was a watch. He probably wanted to keep track of the time elapsed so he wouldn't get caught looking at his watch like G. Bush Sr. did against clinton.
"I detest them almost as much as line jumpers and folks who cut me off in traffic."
I feel that way about people who litter. It infuriates me.
nope, he didn't wear any
Why is it silly?
Under Clinton we had to talk to our kids about oral sex (or hide them from it). We also had to explain why the president is a liar.
If Kerry wins we get to explain why it's not OK to cheat on tests even if the president does it. I know I cheated a time or two in junior high, but if I knew that the President was a cheat, I'd probably never had stopped. Or if I got caught, my retort was so what the President cheats. I just don't want to go there.
Maybe a TIVO video would be better than this grainy one. Anyone who has one that they can take a picture of and post it would be great.
And the scribbling he was doing was his answer for the next question.
Yea but. It is just another confirmation of him taking short cuts and will do anything to further his backers. (he has not causes)
Yes. If Kerry pulled out a cheat sheet, the Prez definitely noticed it as did Lehrer which would explain the Prez's attitude from the start.
It would speak to Bush's integrity, infact, if he noticed it and didn't alert people to it afterward for advantage, but instead took the hits all weekend.
The only "good" possibility is that he was using a hanky, but it's a bit strange that he would unfold it and put it over the papers or between them, I would've crumpled the hanky into the side out of the way, or perhaps put it under the paper where the cup of water was being kept.
I'm sure someone will have a VERY high-res copy somewhere and solve this.
"I think Kerry would make an above-average president of a glee club."
In France of course. (wee-wee club)
