NEWSWEEK POLL: BUSH LEAD GONE
Sat Oct 02 2004 16:42:32 ET
New York-Sixty-one percent of Americans who watched the first presidential debate on September 30 say Sen. John Kerry won; 19 percent say President George W. Bush won and 16 percent say they tied, according to the latest Newsweek Poll which was conducted after the debate ended. Fifty-six percent say Kerry did better than they expected; 11 percent say so for Bush. Thirty-eight percent say Bush did worse than expected; 3 percent say so for Kerry, the poll shows.
The debate erased the lead the Bush/Cheney ticket has held over Kerry/Edwards in the Newsweek Poll since the Republican convention. In a three-way trial heat including Ralph Nader/Peter Camejo, among registered voters Kerry/Edwards leads Bush/Cheney 47 percent v. 45 percent with 2 percent for Nader/Camejo. In a two-way heat, Kerry/Edwards leads 49 percent v. 46 percent for Bush/Cheney, the poll shows.
A 62-percent majority of viewers says Kerry seemed more confident and self-assured (26% say so for Bush) and 51 percent say Kerry had better command of issues and facts (37% for Bush). Forty-seven percent say Kerry seemed more personally likeable (41 % for Bush) and 49 percent say Kerry came closer to reflecting their own views on most foreign policy issues (43% for Bush). The two were nearly even on several other points, including who came across as a strong leader (47% Kerry, 44% Bush) and who had a better plan for dealing with the situation in Iraq (45% for both). Forty percent of viewers thought Kerry was too wordy and 57 percent thought Bush was too repetitive.
Fifty-seven percent of all poll respondents say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time. Bush's job approval rating dropped two points from the Sept. 9-10 Newsweek Poll to 46 percent-a 6-point drop since the poll taken during and after the Republican convention. Forty-eight percent of registered voters polled say they would not like to see Bush re-elected but almost as many (46%) say they would.
Excerpt, the rest of the article is here: NEWSWEEK POLL: BUSH LEAD GONE
I just stumbled into a show called empire of sorrow on "link" network (channel 375 on Direct TV service). This show is pure BS about current administration. The liberal marxist sh*t 'n shineola show network per se.....
Now this flick makes Michael Moores pile look small......
I thought Bush did ok on the first debate. If you listened to what they were saying and not how they were saying, Bush beat Kerry.
Kerry made several mistakes and even contradicted himself during the debate. For example, was the Iraq war a mistake or not? Or, Why should we be unilateral with North Korea but not with Iraq? And what did he mean by "Global Test?"
Bush and co. are hammering him about it now and people will soon fear the phrase "Global Test."
So, Kerry won on style, but Bush will be beating Kerry over the head with what Kerry said for the next week.
And what can Kerry use from the debate that Bush said? Nothing...
Thank you kindly.
Another way of looking at that
If this poll was done in those heavily Dem States .. it ain't good for Kerry
Maybe, like people have been saying for four years, this will be a close election. Maybe it won't. The only thing that we know for sure right now is that nobody knows what's going to happen.
So, what point is there in worrying? Just make sure you vote!!! ;-)
FR has been infested lately. The whole place. It's really hard to tell anymore between some of the newbies and the rest.
When I took Biology debating wasn't one of those things that had anything to do with genes...widow's pick, attached or unnattached earlobes and the ability to roll one's tongue (among others), yes, but not debating.
I think the whole concept of "undecided" in this particular election at this date is a moot point.
Unless you are a complete idiot you already know who you are going to vote for and even if you are an idiot you either like Bush or hate him. There is no middle ground.
Even if someone claims to be "undecided" they are lying to themselves. There has been too much publicity up to this point for anyone to have not given it a thought and drawn their own conclusions.
Anyone who doesn't think the MSM wants to create illusion of a horse race is crazy. It's about ratings and advertising......period.
In the end this is good....there was too much crowing going on and now maybe the Pubs will get back to business.
Carter won the only debate with Reagan?
IIRC, that only debate between Carter and Reagan turned things towards The Gipper. At least in the Gallup poll of the day.
Thank you as well. I feel comfortable here. I'm glad I finally found a place to call home.
After the way the media is latching onto Kerry after the debates I was prepared for Bush to slip some, but something's screwy with the results:
The poll says they interviewed 391 Republicans, 300 Democrats and 270 independents.
They then say that Bush has the support of 93% of the Republicans (364 respondants), 7% of the Democrats (21 respondants), and 39% of the independents (105 respondants). Add them together and Bush ends up with 490 of the possible 961 votes, or 51% of the total respondants.
Kerry, meanwhile, ends up with 87% of his party's vote, or 261 respondants, he gets 4% of the Republican vote, or 16 respondants, and 45% of the independent vote, or 122 votes for that group. Add them all up and Kerry ends up with the support of 399 of those polled or just under 42% of the total number of respondants.
So if you apply the total percentages of the party vote that each candidate receives in this poll and multiple it against the number of respondants by party affiliation then Bush is actually up 50%-42%.
thanks ... I needed that.
Please don't sully this forum with good news. The doomed villagers have their torches lit, and there's no turning back!
"Bush will need a 5-7% lead to overcome the voter fraud."
Agree!
Yep. While they've done away with some of the worst such as KQQL and POA2, we still have churchillbuff and disCOURAGE spewing their garbage as well as many of the newer trolls.
BTW, my last reply to you was generic, none of the "you" were pointed in your direction! :-)
As they say, either putup or shutup. You've had plenty of replies...and nary a peep out of ya...!!
FWIW-
Other people should not be your inspiration to vote, you just DO IT!
