To: 1-Eagle Bush sounds like a decent, plain speaking guy. Gore sounds like a infomercial slickster.

To: hole_n_one I'm not voting for either - but Gore is coming across as a big pr*ck. Bush has to start swinging back.

To: JulieRNR21 Gore is clearly energized and is carrying the fight. Hes stomping all over the debate rules and just blubbering away. Albeir effectively. W is holding his own but as of right now hes losing. Sorry. I call em as I see em.

To: hole_n_one wow. this is painful. gore is cleaning his clock, because somebody told bush that under no circumstances should bush call gore the lying sack that he is. nor does bush get sufficiently angry to stop gore's interruptions. actually, i'd be kind of happy right now to simply see bush wander over and beat the living hell out of gore.

To: hole_n_one Bush is stumbling on his answer about how/when he would use U.S. troops...should be a slam dunk on this issue...

I am absolutely the worst for watching debates ... in fact, I often don't watch them because I am hyper-critical of "my side". I watched the first 5 minutes of Thursday's debate and turned off the sound. I read the live threads and was shocked.

I also remind people that Mondale won the first debate against Reagan. Nuff said.

I think too many folks on this site buy into the notion that Kerry is some incompetent buffoon while Bush is a smooth-talking, brilliant man who can do no wrong. When each candidate is caricatured in such a way, it's inevitable that we'll see these types of panicky comments.

I watched the debate, and it went as I expected it would. Pretty much a draw...

Well, at least I never said that Gore was winning the debate ... or even that Bush was losing. If you want to put it in context read #102 of this thread.

I only hope this doesn't mean we have to go through all of election 2000's events. My heart, sanity and housework can't take it. :-)

Same ole' same ole'...I remember how we all were....Bush in this debate is really no different than the gore debates. Only thing different...is he was pissed off at the gall of the moderator...and the fact skerry all ready had been given the questions...and had a prepared speech to go with it.

The Liberal Loons are nothin' but CHEATERS AND LIARS. And if they think they've fooled anyone....this makes them STUPID!!!

Yup, I questioned a few of them and they claim to be honest critics.

One said he criticizes because there are too many cheer leaders.

I told him I cheer because there are too many critics.

I now wonder if I will retain my sanity until this election is over, or if perchance I have lost it already.:-)

I am not an optimist or a "cheerleader". And I won't be until Bush is leading in MA and in DC. But for goodness's sake... we're supposed to jump off a cliff because of one poll from a publication whose editor has said he will pull out all stops to make sure Bush is defeated? And it was largely a flash poll, too. Very few parents will be taking calls past 8:30 or so.

I now wonder if I will retain my sanity until this election is over, or if perchance I have lost it already.:-)

Dittos, I'm just trying to hang on until I can mail my absentee ballot in.

What's so funny is that most of the people on that thread saying "I wish I didn't have to say this blah blah blah, but Bush is getting his butt kicked" never supported Bush in the first place. Just like last night.

Howlin, that's simply not true. i LOVE Dubya. and if you check tame's activism updates on my links page you will remember all the volunteer work i do for him.

But intellectual integrity is a must.

Sorry, Ambrose. There is no comparison between that Bush/Gore debate and this Bush/Kerry debate.

For the record, i thought Bush won that debate with Gore, or more precisely, Gore beat himself.

Rush Limbaugh is correct that Bush wins on SUBSTANCE against Kerry. But this is a "DUH' statement. of COURSE the truth ALWAYS wins on substance. that hardly means it should not be presented in a winning way.

Rush is wrong when he says folks won't remember Bush's facial expressions as well as Kerry' words.

Think about it. What does anyone remember from that first Bush/Gore debate? It's Gore's constant sighing "hhhhhhhh".

Make no mistake, the MSM will make Bush's "smirking" something to be remembered from this debate...and Bush did a LOT better against Gore even though Kerry is such an easy target.

still, i believe, and pray that Bush will win this election. The truth is so powerful.

Think about it. What does anyone remember from that first Bush/Gore debate? It's Gore's constant sighing "hhhhhhhh".

And his make-up, and his wooden mannerisms, and getting in Bush's face...etc.

Unfortunately most voters will not analyze the substance of what is said in most debates UNLESS the opposing candidate addresses it right on the spot.

Bush failed to do that to a great extent. What most people are going to remember are those images of a frustrated looking Bush.

This is sad because Bush is a strong steady leader with solid convictions. But the image he portrayed said the opposite. He looked uncomfortable, nervous and lacking in confidence.

I only hope he can attempt to erase that image in the remaining debates.

compare my post 116 on this thread:

Think about it. What does anyone remember from that first Bush/Gore debate? It's Gore's constant sighing "hhhhhhhh".

to my comment i just found on the Bush/Gore debate thread:

I've been noticing the sighing as well. It's Gore. Trust me, he knows he's being heard. He does not leave ANYTHING to chance. His snickers and sighs are premeditated and planned to distract Bush, and subliminally seed the voters.

i promise i did not see my comment on that Bush/Gore debate thread (it's been years, anyways) until AFTER i posted my comment today. Too funny :o)

WHy did no one catch the remark Bush made about the military remaining all volunteer? It is in the transcript. Harp on this. NO DRAFT! FOr Kerry to raise two more divisions, it is almost guaranteed that he will need to reinstate the draft.

Translation for the feeble minded:

Vote for Bush and decide if you want to fight for your country.

Vote for the "antiwar" presidential candidate and get DRAFTED!

"Rock" THAT MTV!

yes, that, too, lol :o)

i get the debates mixed up, sometimes, but wasn't the lame Gore-walking-over-to-Bush during the town hall debate?
