Hugh on fire with the correct analysis on last night's debate.
You know what?? I love Pres Bush, but that is NOT an excuse...as much as people want "the Pres has to be able to..." this is one of those things: buck it up! That is so ridiculous, and lame, to think he would be too emotionally "overwrought" to carry on in a debate. Heavens! If that's the case, what happens when his doggie dies & he has to make a crucial decision. Gimme a break.
Your point goes well with Hugh's comment:
Saying Kerry won is like saying the Titanic beat the iceberg.
Bush is firm and Kerry ran up against him and is sinking, slowly...but surely.
Are we sure of that? It could have been the Depends that some on FR are convinced he makes use of . . . ;)
Depends? That just about covers his views in politics.
I hope you heard how Kerry spent his day yesterday: First sent his minions out to object, nay DEMAND, to remove the timing light box from the podiums. The debate commission turned this down and the light boxes stayed.
Then Kerry got a manicure.
So Karl Rove is human. The GOP campaign idiots should not have had Bush spend the day in Florida, and should have had him rested by moving his schedule a couple of hours a few days prior to the debate. He could have flown to FL AFTER the debate. I mean hello - everyone knows the press would be all over Bush for a bad performance. And he should have had a bit of practice counterattacking Kerry. They knew most of his principal points. You take your note-card and you write little bullets as Kerry speaks about the lies you need to address.
Bush clearly has it in him. He did slash Kerry pretty bad on a few points. It is just the missed opportunities that were hard to take.
If this clown isn't dangerous enough, he is saying he would subjugate our sovereignty to the whims of countries like France and other back water countries. Then he would conduct a feminized politically correct sensitive war against the cabal of offal in Islams Wahhabi sect. These rouges just showed their sensitive side in Beslan, and yesterday in Baghgdad using car bombs to slaughter the 35 or more children.
My brother, who is not political at all, e-mailed me and said after watching the debate he was so mad at Kerry that he took a Bush bumper sticker he had received and went out and put it on his pickup! Then when he got to work and saw the Kerry in drag e-mail I had sent him, he went and posted it in the shop....hehehe. Wonder if Kerry had that affect on others last night?
Last night's debate was held in Florida.
And substance will win.
"I read on another thread that using the clips is verbotten until after the election, due to the debate rules agreed to.
Dunno if it is true. Certainly the statements can be used."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing says the Swifties and 527's can't use any and all clips or quotes. It was a public debate. I hope they grab sKerry's ball and run with it!
Thanks, neat summation from last night.
Very interesting summary. I found the "debate" itself unwatchable.
The gaffe of the night was Kerry's "global test". America doesn't need no stinking "global test" to protest itself!
What is your source for Kerry getting the questions early ..?? If you don't have a source .. you're dealing with rumor and that's a dem dirty trick .. to accuse people using rumors and not facts.
"Bush gave up a tactical loss in order to gain a strategic advantage. Kerry is bleeding out and doesnt even realize it."
I think that's a very good point. Hmmmm?
Some times I amaze myself. Comes from living in DC, the center of the universe. If it doesn't happen here it doesn't happen.
George W Bush has been underestimated his entire political career and his opponents have paid for it.
"using the clips is verbotten until after the election"
Really! Then why is the DNC running a video of the facial expressions of the President ..??
FLIP-FLOPPER PAINT BALLED - RED FACED
She was to paint-ball his ass the bright orange that would make him the king of all his Swift Boat followers ... or should it be the "bad'est red-ass" of them all ??
She could not tell, from his flip-flops, the difference from his face and his ... democrapic donky!
What an ass !
People will remember that Bush wants to go after terrorists around the world, and that he wants to stay the course in Iraq until the Iraqis can defend themselves. Furthermore, he did pound Kerry on the big stuff -- disrespect for the allies, ignorant amateurism on North Korea, and the "global test" remark.
They will remember that Kerry's big idea is to hold a summit and that he thinks we have to pass a "global test" before we can defend ourselves. It may dawn on them that he basically said that the only important goal of the War on Terror is catching Bin Ladin.
They will remember that Kerry was smooth and Bush rough-edged and impatient, but knowledgable, and gracious to Kerry on the character question. In other words, they will remember that GWB acted just like GWB as they have gotten to know him over the last four years: nothing changes.
Kerry did not need to win the debate on style. He needed for the President to put his foot in it, and Bush didn't. Instead, Kerry put his foot in it, and let his inner peacenik show through too clearly. In the short run, this debate won't change much. In the long run, Kerry may have handed Bush the presidency.
As for Krauthammer, he is a brilliant analyst of issues. But I am not ready to consider a Canadian psychiatrist who is also a beltway journalist an oracle on the reactions of the American electorate to the debate.
