PBS host Jim Lehrer was challenged Friday morning on claims that he went easy on Sen. John Kerry during Thursday night's presidential debate, while tossing verbal hand grenades in President Bush's direction designed to keep him on the defensive.
"I don't know what in the world you're talking about," Lehrer told radio host Don Imus, in his only post-debate interview.

It was obvious how Lehrer was going to handle debate with the very first question directed at Kerry - "what 'collosal mistakes' has Bush made in the War on Terror?"BINGO..!!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER..!!!!

that right there was a huge mistake for a moderator, he was not infomation seeking he was reacting seeking. Not professional at all.
To: MizSterious
I say this as a person who used to think Lehrer was a good journalist and fairly balanced.
The questions last night were uncreative in addition to being very biased against the President.
Lehrer is just another lefty reporter who can't be objective. Sick.

I don't think there is any way to do so. You can't manipulate the moderators...

I want Lehrer to tell us if he gave the talking points to Kerry BEFORE the debate!

"And it reminds me that it is vital for us not to confuse the war, ever, with the warriors. That happened before."
Yes. It was Kerry that was confused. He stated taht teh "warriors" had committed atrocities, etc.

Almost all of the questions went to GW's handling of the war and none were about JFK's record. The one hardball question Lehrer asked JFK about SPECIFICS he would do differently in Irag, JFK dodged except to say "go to my website." Dumb*ss, that's why we're watching you debate! And Lehrer nor the President ever called him on it.
To: StarFan
My *recollection* was that Lehrer embraced Kerry's arm as they shook hands and gave him a wink. He and Bush then passed each other and stuck their hands out and shook in passing, neither stopping to chat.
It's just my off the cuff recollection and should not be construed as being seared (SEARED!) into my memory.

Yes, that was me!! I hope people will call whoever their local radio shows are! Kerry can spew out the five-dollar words, but he is very shakey on subject matter.

I just knew it! Good job.

Thanks! Since they had already covered two of my points (the lies about the subway anad the 200 billion) I managed to explain Lehrer's questioning. Garrison did say he would go back and review it, which I hope he does.
I didn't hear the rest of the show because I had to take my granddaughter outside for a little bit before lunch.
To: Miss Marple
I strongly agree and I hope Leherer sp? gets repeatedly taken to the woodshed and shredded over it until he's best not show his face in public again.

In 1997, then-White House aide George Stephanopoulos revealed that President Clinton's reelection team thought it was a major coup when Lehrer was chosen to host one of the presidential debates, boasting that "our moderator" had been picked.Couldn't have said it better myself.

LEHRER CERTAINLY SET-UP TODAY'S AGENDA!!
Did you notice how he tried to get Bush to say that he believes that nuclear proliferation is the greatest threat? "So let me get this straight, you both agree that the greatest threat is nuclear proliferation?"
Bush saw right through that and clearly stated that proliferation of WMD IN THE HANDS OF TERRORISTS is the greatest threat.
Bush's correction was overlooked by the media. Just scrolled across my pager: "Bush and Kerry agree that nuclear proliferation is the greatest threat."
Kerry can't see how the U.S. can ask rogue nations to disarm while it doesn't disarm itself. The U.S. is good, stupid, and the rogue nations are bad! Yes, Mr. Kerry, the U.S. is GOOD!
Kerry wants to dismantle our means of getting Osama. He wants to us to lower our defensive shield. Come on, [Kerry] people, open your eyes!
