Agreed. Bush was lousy. He needed to push the fact that we are living in a post-9/11 world where the USA must act to defend itself. The President has, and will act. Kerry will not. The war in Iraq is part of the war on terror. Saddam was linked to Al-Qaeda. Kerry is still living in the 9/10 world, and has demonstrated through 20 years of dovish votes in the Senate that he won't take the strong measures needed to defeat the terrorists, regardless of what he says.

Bush did none of this. Furthermore, his delivery was slow and hesitant. Yes, yes, I know all about speaking plainly and the common man being able to relate to Bush. Nevertheless, the President must be able to communicate his vision and message in a manner which will inspire people to follow him, ala Ronald Reagan, the Great Communicator. Last night's performance was subpar. Bush needs to be better than that. I need my President to stand above the rest of us common folk and articulate a message better than we could do ourselves. Frankly, there are people on this board who could have done a better job last night.

He seemed intimidated by Kerry

The impression I got was that the President was smoldering with anger. I think a lot of his hesitation in replying was because he was choosing his words so carefully. He didn't want to give in to his feelings and lash out in response to Kerry's provocation, as the Dems wanted him to.

You do that, too? Here I thought I was odd. You and the other poster who mentioned using his wife as a barometer have let me know that I am not alone.

My wife agreed. She thought Kerry came off arrogant and Bush connected. A "home run" on presenting the real him.

I wonder how many other FReepers use their wife as a joe-public barometer?

I thought Kerry looked just horrible last night. Literally. He had that derisive sneer on his face all night. He showed disrespect for our troops and allies (remember that sarcastic gesture he made when Bush mentioned Poland?). Half the time he was nodding his head, as if in agreement, but when he opened his mouth it was to go on the attack without every once laying out a plan of his own.

When Bush mentioned several times that a man who believes this is the wrong war at the wrong time is in no position to lead our troops who are already there, he had no coherent response.

And the NY subways did not shut down during the convention!
