SUBWAY FLUB DERAILS CHALLENGER
New York Post ^ | 10/01/04 | Gersh Kuntzman

October 1, 2004 -- Sen. John Kerry was on a wrong track in last night's presidential debate — as any New York straphanger knows.

In an early exchange about homeland security, Kerry got it wrong when he claimed President Bush's cuts in funding for infrastructure protection was "why they had to close down the subway in New York when the Republican Convention was there."

The only problem is that no subway service beneath Madison Square Garden was suspended during the convention, even as buses were diverted and gridlock ruled the streets.

"We did not stop any trains," said Transit Authority spokesman Paul Fleuranges. "I will not guess or opine what he was talking about."

He was wrong about the money for Iraq, too.

Among other things.

He said something about no one guarding the nuclear facilities when we took Baghdad...what the heck was that about? (Pardon my ignorance. I honestly don't know.)

He was, I'm guessing, talking about certain sites in Iraq where UN weapons inspectors had sealed and marked certain radioactive materials in the years before the weapons inspections were cancelled. Some of these sites were apparently looted before we could get to them.

According to the Libs, there are NO WMD in Iraq so there should be no reason to worry about the nuclear reactor there. Maybe Kerry knows something the rest of us don't.

They need to get in contact with Bill Clinton and John Kerry then; they both swore they were there.

According to Kerry, they didn't.

Then according to Kerry, failure to secure these sites is why we lack the documents to prove their existence. LOL

Ahh. I think a number of pundits are going to be eating crow. It would seem G.W. just locked kerry into a treasure trove to mine the next for weeks.

Kerry made that reference at least twice...I posted a "WHAT?" on the live thread, and then thought maybe he was stressing we protected the "Ministry of Oil" building in Iraq, but didn't safeguard the Nuke facilities here in the States when we moved on Iraq?????I still don't get that point. Were there Nuke facilities in Iraq or not??? Why the connection??? No WMDs, right?

Here is the transcript.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,134152,00.html

That's exactly where we find ourselves today. There's a sense of American occupation. The only building that was guarded when the troops when into Baghdad was the oil ministry. We didn't guard the nuclear facilities. We didn't guard the foreign office, where you might have found information about weapons of mass destruction. We didn't guard the borders.
