CHENEY ROLLS WITH THE GLOBAL TEST

REMARKS BY THE VICE PRESIDENT FOLLOWING A PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE WATCHING PARTY

Denver Marriott City Center Denver, Colorado

7:57 P.M. MDT

AUDIENCE: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Good evening.

AUDIENCE: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Thank you, thank you. (Applause.) Well, we're delighted you were here tonight. I thought the President did a great job. (Applause.) I was fascinated to watch on the one hand John Kerry saying that he's committed to winning the war on terror, and to winning in Iraq, and then he turns around and is unrelentingly negative about the proposition, the decision.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Useless.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Useless was your comment. (Laughter.) But I thought it's -- the President made several very good points, especially saying how can you expect to get support from our allies when you consistently trash our allies' efforts? (Applause.)

And the real bottom-line decision in terms of what this election is all about is who is going to be Commander-in-Chief, who do we want to have in the Oval Office making those life decisions -- life-and-death decisions for the United States, for our people, and the man who makes the decisions about when we're going to send troops in harm's way. And I don't think you can look at that debate tonight and conclude anything other than on the one case we've got in George Bush a man who has done it, who has been there, done it four different -- for four different years now, and done a superb job, made the right decisions for America; is absolutely committed to taking offensive action whenever it's necessary in order to defend the United States of America, and the wanna-be Senator who says -- (laughter) -- says that in response to the question on preemptive action, he would support it as long as it passed some kind of global test.

AUDIENCE: Booo!

THE VICE PRESIDENT: What George Bush has made clear repeatedly is that we're perfectly prepared to seek international support for international efforts. We've got a great alliance -- we've got 30 countries fighting alongside of us in Iraq. And we're prepared to work to lead a coalition, but we will never submit to the objections of a few. We will never seek a permission slip to defend the United States of America. (Applause.)

So I want to thank all of you for being here tonight. I've got to go do some interviews. And of course, I would invite all of you to watch next Tuesday when we'll do it all over again from Cleveland. (Applause.) John Edwards and myself -- I'm very, very proud to have had the privilege of serving alongside this President. And I'm delighted that the American people are going to give him four more years to lead this nation. (Applause.)

AUDIENCE: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

No kidding. I was thinking the same thing and the only conclusion I could come up with as to why the President didn't call him on it was that maybe Kerry was trying to snare the President into some type of trap and W wasn't falling for it.

I believe Kerry said it twice. Hopefully Brit with shed some light on this tomorrow.

"I thought it was funny that Kerry said that we protected the oil industry but did not protect the nuclear sites. My question is, what nuclear sites was he refering to"

DING DING DING DING DING....WE HAVE A WINNER!!

It bears repeating:
WHAT NUCLEAR SITES WAS HE REFERRING TO???

This is nothing less than a straight up acknowledgement that Iraq DID have WMDs!!...and WAS a tremendous threat...and it NEEDED to be dealt with!!

The Reps are going to run with this hard.

And they should. This should be a Bush/Cheney commercial. Let the BLOGS begin!

Kerry will now get clobbered on this "global test" comment. It shows that his outlook really hasn't changed since he told the Harvard Crimson waaay back in 1971 or so that US troops should only be deployed around the world with UN approval. Liberal internationalists will love Kerry's comment because that's their outlook and they don't understand how a majority of Americans can reject the idea that the UN is supreme. But on Nov. 2 the Kerry-lites will discover that a majority of the electorate will not submit to the "global test" b.s. for our self-defense and survival. It is indeed a BFD!

My question is, what nuclear sites was he refering to?

Definitely the "ding-ding-winner" question of the day.

Yes, that phrase.....'Global Test' jumped out of my TV as well....Kerry will rue that remark!

Also saying that he didn't use the 'harsh word' (lie)....which he's on tape repeated using against Bush.

Remeber how Gore's exagerations were caught after a debate and that became the story instead of 'who won'?

I thought it was funny that Kerry said that we protected the oil industry but did not protect the nuclear sites. My question is, what nuclear sites was he refering to

So Kerry first said that Saddam wasn't a threat & had no WMDs but then flip flops to 'why didn't we protect the nuclear sites'?

BRAVO.....you seem to be the only one whp has caught that!

Thanks Julie. I will sleep a lot better tonight knowing that dog will have his day IF the media does their job in reporting his many lies, inconsistencies and precisely where he would take this country if given the chance.

What a great question. Why not send it to Brit Hume who might raise it as well?

Ok, correct me if I am wrong. He said we didn't protect the nuclear sites right? But wouldn't nuclear sites be evidence of WMDs that don't really exist?

Cheney is going to slice and dice Edwards with his calm, cool, and collected approach. Bush will steam roll in the town hall debates. Debate #3 will manage 50% of what tuned in tonight.

Then there's the more important second reaction, the one over the next 72 hours, based on a more in-depth look at statements and behavior.

I agree, I picked up on it a few minutes after the debate was over. Now it's up to the Bush team to close the deal on the huge gaffs Kerry made.
