KERRY CLAIMS HE'S "NEVER, EVER" USED WORD "LYING" IN REFERENCE TO PRESIDENT BUSH ON IRAQ.
JIM LEHRER: "New question, Senator Kerry. Two minutes. You've repeatedly accused President Bush, not here tonight but elsewhere before, of not telling the truth about Iraq. Essentially, of lying to the American people about Iraq. Give us some examples of what you consider to be his not telling the truth."
SEN. KERRY: "Well, I've never, ever used the harshest word as you just did." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)
BUT IN DECEMBER 2003, KERRY TOLD NEW HAMPSHIRE EDITORIAL BOARD BUSH "LIED" ABOUT REASON FOR GOING TO WAR IN IRAQ. "Kerry also told a New Hampshire newspaper editorial board Friday that Bush had 'lied' about his reasons for going to war in Iraq, a word Kerry has been reluctant to use publicly for months. Yesterday he said he did not plan to use the word again." (Patrick Healy, "Kerry Camp Lowers N.H. Expectations Behind In Polls, Senator Now Seeks Spot In 'Top Two,'" The Boston Globe, 12/8/03)
AND IN SEPTEMBER 2003, KERRY SAID BUSH ADMINISTRATION "LIED" AND "MISLED." "This administration has lied to us. They have misled us. And they have broken their promises to us. The president promised to the people and the Congress that he would build an international coalition, respect the United Nations' process and only go to war as a last resort. I will tell you that from my war fighting experience, I believe there is a test for a president as to how you go to war. And that test is whether or not you can look in the eyes of parents and say to them, 'I did everything possible to avoid the loss of your son and daughter, but we had no other choice in order to protect the security of our nation,' and I know this president fails that test in Iraq." (Sen. John Kerry, Campaign Event, Claremont, NH, 9/20/03)
Fast enough for the conservative talkers tomorrow...even early enough for Bill Bennett!
This debate did not go particularly well. By his own admission, Bush is not a great debater. Kerry was the better speaker, though I give Bush the edge on substance.
I think Kerry helped himself with some undecided voters who had leaned towards him earlier in the year. But otherwise, I don't see the debate having much impact on the race.
"I said he lied before I said he didn't lie"
You know I'm kinda frustrated on why Bush didn't whack Kerry up the side of the head a couple times, but you know I think there was a reason for this....
First, without saying too much, Bush didn't say anything patently false like Kerry did. Second, he wanted to beat home a couple specific messages. Do you remember Kerry's nuanced responses or do you remember Bush in saying Kerry couldn't keep one position, or that his wrong war, wrong time was the wrong message to give troops and allies? Finally, Bush came off as a "normal" guy who has a strength of convictions. Kerry kind of came off as the lecturing professor like algore did 4 years ago.
I was pissed originally, now I don't feel so bad and in fact I think Kerry gave Bush a lot of fodder going down the road, Bush gave Kerry nothing... What is the Kerry campaign to knock on the President without sounding pessimistic or rude?
Get ready for his Clintonia nuance, I said the "administration" lied, not the "President"
Strike 2 -
TOMMY FRANKS ON CNN: Osama bin Laden is not in Afghanistan, as Senator Kerry said he is.
On lacking a plan for winning the peace: "If you read my book, you'll find I mention a term called 'catastrophic success.' It's a good news thing. . . . But it takes a long time to bring stability to a place that hasn't known stability for a long time. It's inaccurate to say that there was not a plan . . . but some in our media built expectations that that would happen more quickly than was possible."
Strike 3 -
NORTH KOREA:
The US and China have said they were confident North Korea will return to six-party talks to end the stand-off over Pyongyang's nuclear programmes.
US State Secretary Colin Powell said after talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing the format was "what we should be concentrating on".
Mr Li described the talks as the "only feasible and correct option"

Maybe this will turn out to be a win for Bush when the VRWC gets talk radio all over the numerous Kerry lies.
I was stunned by his bi-polar opinions. Wrong war, etc., then clearly states Saddam had to be removed, he was a threat...this guy is hard to keep up with. I think he is pathological.
I hope he gets ripped to shreds and his "victory" is very fleeting.
Keep checking GOP .. you'll find a Boat Load of lies that came out of Kerry's mouth
Right.
It is easy to win a debate when you lie. President Bush can not do that. He is ahead in the polls he has to be very carefull.
Thanks for posting this. You Sir, are a good soldier in this war against the left!
I will tomorrow.........I'm going to bed...........

Hello, Kerry offered to give the Iranian Mullah nuclear fuel and technology!!!!!! Anybody???? Hello??? Can you say Kim Jong Il?? A country that took Americans hostage is going to be getting nuclear fuel and technology from US??? Lord help us.
I agree. I hope you're right, but Kerry was very slick tonight, and Bush seemed a little tired.
Add this to the pot: Brian Williams no less says that the number Kerry uses on Iraq, $200,000,000 is WRONG; it is $119,000,000.
