"Bloggers eye debate" -- Where's Free Republic?
The Boston Herald ^ | September 30, 2004

Posted on 09/30/2004 12:56:32 PM PDT by conservativo

Just as President Bush [related, bio] and Sen. John Kerry [related, bio] are preparing for tonight’s debate, so, too, are legions of others who are readying to provide a running commentary of the political duel on the Web. Bloggers are ready to offer a nearly instantaneous take on tonight’s proceedings. They are fast, opinionated and entertaining. Bloggers like The Indepundit - who will be live-blogging two events at once: the Presidential debate and the Navy/Air Force football game – are ready to provide a less-than-traditional take on the political duel. Here’s a list of blogs to watch during and after tonight’s debate: # Road to 1600: Dave Guarino

# Talking Points Memo

# AndrewSullivan.com

# Wonkette

# The Blogging of the President: 2004

# Daily Kos

# Poliblogger

# Citizen Smash – The Indepundit

FR is bigger than that. Don't EVEN worry about us.

FR is the elephant in the living room that everyone know's is there, but no one ever names. It's pretty funny how all media types (MSM, Rush, Fox, et al) go to great lengths to avoid actually referring to FR.

While Rush & Fox seem to periodically give kudos to FR, most of the time it never comes up. Yet, if you're a FR reader, you know their clever little take or tidbit was lifted directly from FR just hours earlier.

Even funnier are the WP and LAT - they NEVER refer to FR, but go to great lengths to mention other low-volume sites.

But conservatives who don't know about FR will see this list and not know that there's a whole society dedicated to conservatism, that society being FR.

How much plainer can I make this: we don't care about "ratings" from a POS liberal newspaper.

I managed to find my way here in 1998, so I imagine others will get here, some of whom we don't want OR need.

I didn't join FR to tell others how to post!

I understood that liberal newspaper ratings don't matter from the getgo.

Who is asking Google to put us in their system?

You said this:

and ignore requests to place Free Republic on their list?"

Who is doing that?

I managed to find my way here in 1998.

And kept your original handle to boot! Heck, I've been here the same length of time, but have to keep updating my handle since I can't risk anyone associating my real ID with my FR postings. Once Google starts getting too close, I gotta change again.

There are other threads; search for "Google News;" I've heard several complaints about FR not being in there.

We should encorage the Old Media to direct attention to more important "blogs" like DU or the ones mentioned in the article.

Our server will run faster for our live threads, and we won't be bothered with as many trolls.

You've stuned my beeber.

No, you said IGNORING REQUESTS. Who is requesting Google do that?

Now, here's another lesson for you: when you post a statement on FR, we expect YOU to back it up, not send US to look for something to back you up.

RE: streaming consciousness on the Latest Posts page.

I feel your pain.

There are so many interesting threads on this site that some of us are quite content to reply only.

To be honest, there are not enough hours in the day to keep up with substantive threads, let alone thumb-sucking drivel posts.

Actually, Jarlsberg, but that's a different story...if you're referring to my comment asking that people check that comment before posting, that's to conserve web server space and bandwith, because other "FR is not a blog" comments would be redundant.

I said that Google is ignoring the requests because apparently emails have been sent to them several times asking that FR be put on, with no response. Nobody is requesting Google to ignore the requests. Sorry for being unclear.
