Buckhead speaks
Scripps Howard News Service / The Minnesota (Red) Star ^ | September 29, 2004

Posted on 09/30/2004 11:15:42 AM PDT by presidio9

An alert Georgia blogger nicknamed "Buckhead," along with other Internet truth seekers who followed his lead, struck a telling blow at smug, unobjective anchor Dan Rather and his CBS TV "60 Minutes II" by quickly analyzing and questioning the proportionally spaced fonts used in the so-called National Guard records of George W. Bush. "Buckhead" - a brilliant Atlanta attorney who spends many a wee hour on his computer surfing the "blogosphere" - first challenged CBS in a posting on the FreeRepublic.com Web site.

"I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old," he wrote barely four hours after Rather's Sept. 8 show unveiled its "scoop." Within minutes, truth-seekers were using their Internet superhighway to further analyze the typefaces - not known to have been used in 1972 typewriters - to reinforce my friend's suspicions and to tweak aggressive news outlets into doing some investigative reporting.

A few days later, as establishment media experts were finally weighing in against a defiant Rather (who apologized 10 days later), one exultant FreeRepublic.com groupie declared in a succinct posting: "Buckhead for the U.S. Supreme Court!"

My friend, though, is a modest man. He later reflected: "As for my part, this tsunami would, without any doubt, have happened w/o me, so it ain't no big thang. I will have a cold one tonight, though."

Yet it really is a "big thang."

As The Wall Street Journal perceptively noted in a Sept. 16 editorial, "this is potentially a big cultural moment." It underscored that the widespread challenge to Rather - to his "reporting" credibility - "means that the liberal media establishment has ceased to set the U.S. political agenda."

Is the liberal media dead? Of course not.

Man, that graphic rocks!
That talking CBS eye graphic in Reply #11 is so good I almost wish it would be put up on the home page of Free Republic. A classic.

I will have a cold one to that picture........ 'Buckwheat Throat' knocks off the old media.

One thing though, you notice how the Rather/Documents/CBS/DNC story has mostly disappeared --- NO investigation by any old media people into the real collaboration and collusion, and no interest in finding the root of the documents. It's a bad joke, and little has really changed.

This should have been bigger than Watergate, but the old media still controls things WAY TOO MUCH. They are succeeding in burying the story!

The GOP headquarters in Washington state were broken into and the 3 computers with the most sensitive information were the only items stolen. Where is this story in MSM? Buried with the memo crime.

Very correct. Buried.

Anyone who thinks the real configuration of the media has been altered substantially by the excellent and alert exposure of Rather and CBS by FR and the rest of the internet is kidding themselves.

The old liberal/socialist/commie media still has the greatest influence over at least 70% of voters (IMO). Unfortunately, there are way too many people who still rely on their short, almost accidental glances at the "old media" to get their information. And along with that, all of them aren't even aware of the subconscious, subliminal effect of the products of the entertainment business and the rest of the media on their political opinions.

There will be dark days ahead until the people get wiser, and unfortunately they are not going to get wiser before November 2nd.

[ Yet it really is a "big thang." ]

Actually what it does is expose the FCC as a useless scarecrow..
OR WORSE... in league with the MSM's persistent attacks on AMERICA..

Kerry(and Bubba) being traitor(s) is one thing...
An arm of the U.S. governemnt being one is another..

This card in a house of cards should threaten the whole house..
Every loyal american should be blowing on that house with all their might(s)..
There are lots of cards.. Ann Coulters book(s) TREASON and SLANDER seems to have been sidelined or conviently "forgotten"..

If NOT "we" deserve whatever happens to "us", and we've met the enemy and it's "US"..
