AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A British Airways flight from Berlin to London has made an unscheduled landing at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport as a security precaution, the airline says.
The aircraft was escorted by two Dutch air force F-16 fighter planes after the pilot requested the landing, officials said.
"At the moment there are no more details of the specific threat," BA spokeswoman Sophie Greenyer said.
"All passengers have disembarked and have been taken to a part of the airport for security screening."
Authorities were also checking the plane, flight 983, police said.
Schiphol, one of Europe's busiest international airports, is on the outskirts of the Dutch capital.
"For the time being we think it could be a bomb alert," a Schiphol military police spokesman said.
Two Greek Olympic Airlines planes flying from Athens to New York have been diverted to Britain and Ireland respectively this week after bomb threats. Both turned out to be hoaxes.
British Airways shares dipped briefly on Thursday's news.
"There was a kneejerk reaction, but people have adapted their mindset to the fact that these sorts of things are going to happen," said one share trader.
