Kerry: Oil prices show Bush broken promises ('Halliburton's not feeling the pain')
AP ^ | Thursday, September 30, 2004

John Kerry said Wednesday the $50 per barrel price of oil reflects a broken promise of President Bush that will hurt average Americans.

Bush said Iraqi oil "would pay for the war, but we know that those oil pipes are being blown up," Kerry said. "We know that $50 a barrel isn't as bad as it might get because analysts are now telling us that the price may go up to $60."

Crude oil surpassed $50 a barrel for the first time this week, and analysts said prices could keep rising because of an increase in global demand, tight supplies and threats to output in petroleum-producing nations such as Iraq and Nigeria.

Homeowners and energy-intensive industries could feel the sting from high oil prices worsen as seasonal demand picks up, and there is already evidence that supply disruptions caused by hurricane damage are making it more costly to drive.

"Halliburton's not feeling the pain," Kerry said. "The people in Saudi Arabia and (the) Middle East who get the money aren't feeling the pain. But the average American is going to feel the pain of the fact that President Bush has broken his promise, doesn't have an energy policy for this country and doesn't know how he's going to solve the problem of Iraq."

Also Wednesday, Kerry's campaign released a TV ad on "energy independence" in which he says: "I want an America that relies on its own ingenuity and innovation, not the Saudi royal family."

Kerry was speaking to supporters in Madison, Wisconsin, just before boarding a flight to Florida, where the first presidential debate is scheduled for Thursday night. Kerry said among the supporters he met at the airport were two U.S. soldiers who fought in Iraq and are worried about the tough job of getting the troops out.

Didn't Kerry say Bush had a secret deal with the Saudi Royal family to keep oil prices down? So Kerry was wrong about that before he was really wrong about that?

Does John Kerry even know what Halliburton does? They make more money when the price of oil goes DOWN.

"Halliburton's not feeling the pain."

Except for the families of the 40+ Halliburton employees who've been killed in Iraq. But what the hell does Halliburton have to do with the price of oil, Mr. Kerry? These guys are NUTS, absolutely obsessed, with Halliburton.

Kerry said Bush predicted $28 per barrel. When did Bush say that?

Nothing at all in the CNN report about Kerry voting against drilling in ANWR three years ago.

Kerry is so clueless, but more so he thinks the average democrat is even more clueless and they will vote for him if he feeds them this or that crap.

The price of oil is going up for many reasons. The most logical reason is the demand. China is now consuming more oil than ever before instead of exporting it.

I'm sure that there are many other reasons.

Except that Halliburton is not an oil producer. Lurch is dumber than dirt.

I hope Edwards or a questioner brings up Halliburton in the debates; Cheney will tee it up and smack it WAY down the fairway, 310 yards.

This is getting pathetic. Grasping at straws will not influence anyone. Does he have an actual plan for oil or is it a secret?

Hey...kerry...you stupid POS ass -- if you and your environmentalist whack-job constituency wouldn't protest every time we stick a pipe in the ground, maybe we wouldn't have to depend so heavily on foreign oil.

This guy's like my ex-wife -- gettin' dumber by the day.

Good find. But don't expect the media to challenge Kerry on that point.

The average person only knows Halliburton as a scare word. I guarantee you that less than 5% of people could tell you what they do.

I'm sure that there are many other reasons.

Another reason is supply, such as none of it coming out of ANWR and very little off the coast of Califonia.

It must be the oldest technique in the world, link a lie with a truth in a statement and expect people to believe all of it. Kerry knows what he is doing and he is not so ignorant of the facts as some believe.

Halliburton's not feeling the pain? Read the news, Kerry:

On a per-capita basis, Halliburton has lost almost as many people in Iraq as the US military.

Kerry acts as if Bush has his finger on the oil price button when in reality, there's not a lot Bush can do about it. Neither could Kerry.

Probably because drilling in ANWR wouldn't even hardly make a dent in oil prices. There's just not enough there.
