I am applying for a job at Blockbuster Video to bring in some extra money while my finanical advisor career takes off. One of the questions they ask you is "Are you a Vietnam Era Veteran?" According to Blockbuster, A Vietnam Era Veteran is defined as:
Any person who: 1) Served on active duty for more than 180 days any time between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975 that was discharged or released other than dishonorably: or 2) Was discharged or released from active duty for a service-connected disability if any part of such active duty was performed between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975
So according to Blockbuster, John Kerry is not a Vietnam Vet.

Kerry served his first tour of duty on the USS Gridley. That should put him over the 180 day limit.
He was active duty for at least 180 days I think.
The definition only requires ACTIVE DUTY for 180 days... you do not have to be in theatre that long.

Well I would think the 2nd part would pertain to Kerry, but he was not disabled. Unless you consider an inflated ego and a unsatiable appetite for attention a disability. This is curious. I wonder if this Viet vet definition is written down in some labor law, after all Kerry seems to have gotten the job of Senator based not only on his liberalism but on his Viet service as well being that liberals consider him a Vietnam hero on the level of Rambo.

They put the word "era" in there. Vietnam era veteran. If they simply put Vietnam vet, then it may be a different story.

Yes. "Vietnam-era" means exactly that.....it does NOT mean "Vietnam Veteran"

Answer: Yes, because Bush was also on active duty more than 180 days. Flight school alone is almost a year!
So if a decorated combat vet gets sent home on emergency leave after serving 179 days in combat lets say do to his father getting killed... and then gets a 'compassionate reassignment' that he be close to his mother, younger brothers and sisters...according to your thinking on the matter that veteran is not a Vietnam veteran?....
