MAN FROM MASS. IS A SLOUCH, EVEN IF HE DOES STAND TALL
New York Post ^ | 9/30/04 | DEBORAH ORIN

September 30, 2004 -- MIAMI — As Democrat John Kerry tries to distract attention from his new orangey tan, he's angling to play the height card — "I'm taller" — as voters get their first chance to size up the presidential candidates on the same stage at tonight's debate.

But someone should tell Kerry to watch his posture and stand tall. He tends to slouch awkwardly as if he's uncomfortable rather than proud of his height — making him look gangly while Bush has a confident military-style bearing.

Personal image really matters at debates in a subliminal way — especially, many analysts say, for women who are looking at the rivals to gauge who can better protect America (and their kids) in a time of terrorism.

So the most fundamental question tonight could be whether Kerry can use his height to dominate Bush — or Bush can use his bearing to dominant Kerry.

Kerry certainly was setting the stage for heightism this week when he cracked that it's time to change horses because "we need a taller horse — you can get through deeper water that way."

It's true that Kerry, at 6 feet 4 inches, is visibly taller than Bush — who's 5 feet 11 inches. In most elections, the taller man wins, but not in 2000, when Al Gore had 2 inches over Bush.

Height is why there's such pre-debate combat over the podium — too tall and a guy looks diminished, too short and the tall guy has to stoop. This year they agreed on 50 inches from the floor.

He IS GANGLY, weak looking, pale (til tan in the bottle) wrinkled & haggard looking. He may be taller, but looks like a string bean.

Compare his pics to those of G.W. hauling logs at his ranch!

JfK will look like Ichabod Crane in front of the Cameras tonight. He will reveal his inner self and scare every woman and child in the land.

I have to disagree. He looks like a carrot, not a string bean. ;)

I understood the headline to read that Kerry is "an awkward, lazy, or inept person" (the 2nd definition of this word!).

Wonder why he let someone put tanning lotion on him a week before the debates. Could it be somewhere buried in those 32 pages are lighting restrictions and being orange under the lights will give him a glow the ladies love?

Or is Hillary that smart and sent her makeup person over?

Or is Hillary that smart and sent her makeup person over?

I have this image of Hillary sitting with recovering Bill every night and both of them cackling over suggestions they are making to the Kerry campaign. Hillary says, "Let's have him call Allawi a puppet" and they both start laughing hyserically then Bill says "no, no , wait, this is perfect, lets suggest he go to one of those spray on tanning salons right before the debates. You know, the ones that make you look orange?" And off they go laughing like two nutcases. It's really not too far fetched and I have no other possible explanation for the disaster that is this campaign.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I read yesterday that Terayzah over ruled a makeup girl as to the proper amount of makeup for a recent speech of hubby's and she herself brushed even more rouge on his cheeks. She's an expert, no doubt, on everything since she's rich, you know. HA

His eyes are sunken about two inches into his face. That's a good thing, because when you can see his eyes they track in two different directions.

Unless President Bush really screws something up, kerry will lose tonight. Here's why:

1) He's too tall. If he were thicker and more physically intimidating, 6'4" height can be a benefit. However, he appears too thin and creepy.

2) His voice sounds arrogant and condescending.

3) He is, without a doubt, an ugly man.

4) His platform is pure, baseless rhetoric.

5) His record of political inactivity and general lack of positive effect on America will be a "Red Badge" in the eyes of anyone in this country possessing common sense.

kerry will, of course, be declared the winner among his support base...who are easily taken in by his type of platform and who lack critical thinking skills necessary to see beyond partisan rhetoric and discern fact from fluff.

All others will clearly see that America will be much better off with four more years of steadfast leadership.

Kerry's "appearance" problems are far more than his Height... he's a fake, pure and simple. Mute the audio and watch him speak... seriously, his body language is terrible, his body and arm movements are forced and awkward... Learned and planned actions, not natural flowing ones.

He's a terrible public speaker... he comes across as fake and hollow and its not just the feces that drones out of his mouth. His body language as well is horrible. The democrats could not have picked a worse candidate than Kerry. They let their "party" be taken over by communist sympathizers and radical socialists whos only common thread is, they hate Bush and hate the american ideal... so they wrapped themselves up with this loser and now they have to deal with the consequences.

Of course. One to watch each of his positions.

Your hillarious scenario would explain a whole lot -- rofl! Reminds me of working on our junior class homecoming skit years ago -- each working to outdo the last suggestion.

I was referring to a scene from the movie "Caddyshack", where Ted Knight as Judge Smails, the stuffy leader of the stuffy country club, invites Chevy Chase, as the idle rich waste case Ty Webb, to play a few rounds with him and his friend the doctor. "He's been club champion three years running, and I'm no slouch myself." "Don't sell yourself short, Judge...you're a tremendous slouch."
