Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has launched a criminal investigation into forged military records allegedly obtained from President Bush's National Guard file that were aired by CBS News two weeks ago, referring a congressional request for the probe to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers."On Wednesday 52 Republican congressman urged the Texas attorney general and the U.S. attorney in Lubbock to investigate who created a bogus document at the heart of the now-discredited CBS News story accusing Bush of shirking his Guard duty," the Fox News Channel's Major Garrett reported. The congressional letter read in part: "We request an immediate investigation and prosecution if warranted. Our interest is in whether any state or federal crimes were committed."
Texas Attorney General Abbott immediately forwarded the congressional request to the investigative division of the Texas Rangers, Garrett said.
CBS I'd rather not check my sources should lose their license over this stunt. Just like Sandy Berger belongs in jail. Hope springs eternal.
This is a federal investigation - the FBI should be all over it.
Don't Mess With Texas!
Can't think of a better agency to investigate this than the Texas Rangers, the last trustworthy arm of government. I have confidence that they will get to the bottom of this and will do it without fear or favor.
RATHERGATE PROBE in Texas - ping.
They said weeks, not months. So we should be getting results any day now. /sarcasm

'Envisioned' v. 'Dookus'
'Dookus' probably has the most appropriate sig of all-time.
The libs STILL cling to the memos... libs attacking libs.
Let's hope that Dan I'd Rather not check my sources is also getting a lot of mail for his deplorable reporting on a possible draft.
Bump!
The very idea of sharing a toilet with Dan Rather.....
I wish he would also investigate Travis Co. Ronnie Earle as well. That POS/SOB thinks he is the only person in Texas who has any say about politics.
In Texas the A.G. doesn't prosecute cases unless he is helping a local prosecutor or (at their request) or appointed because a local prosecutor has a conflict. Even if Abbott finds evidence to support a case he still needs an elected prosecutor in the proper jurisdiction to take the case to a grand jury.
I hope Kinkos saved their security camera tapes. The Rangers might be interested in viewing them.
bump
If you are going to kick a tiger in the ass, you had better have a plan to deal with it's teeth.
One Riot, one Texas Ranger.
One massive attempted coup to defeat a president, a whole lot of Texas Rangers.
Go Rangers!
Insanity is often inherited.
I read somewhere that Mary Mapes met with Burkett at some kind of diner, where he handed her the docs. After that, she proceeded to Kinkos & faxed copies back to the office.

I'll bet there's a prosecutor in Abeline who'd take the case.
