FROM WNYC-FM's The Brian Lehrer Show.

Brian Lehrer: What do you think of the Swift Boat veterans ads, and John Kerry's calls for the president to denounce them?
Dennis Hastert: Well, you find out that if you look into the record, I was against the Campaign Finance Reform Act because that's what I felt that would happen, that you would push into guys like George Soros, who's dumping in $16 or $20 million. We don't know where that money comes from. We don't know where it comes from, from the left, and you don't know where it comes in the right. You know, Soros' money, some of that is coming from overseas. It could be drug money. We don't know where it comes from.

Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has asked the House ethics committee to investigate House Speaker Dennis Hastert over comments suggesting that Soros could be receiving money from illegal drug groups.
"This kind of insinuation - that a private United States citizen was in league with drug cartels and may be receiving funds derived from criminal activity - has no place in public discourse," Soros wrote Tuesday to the chair and top Democrat on the panel, Reps. Joel Hefley, R-Col., and Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va.
During an Aug. 29 interview on "Fox News Sunday," Hastert, R-Ill., questioned the source of the 73-year-old financier's wealth: "I don't know where George Soros gets his money. I don't know where - if it comes from overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from." He made similar comments in an Aug. 23 radio interview...
After Hastert made his comments, 11 House Democrats led by Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, wrote Soros inviting him to speak on Capitol Hill.
Frank's office explains:
"In response to recent right-wing attacks against billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros, a group of House Democrats today wrote to Mr. Soros inviting him to meet with them on Capitol Hill to discuss several relevant, important public policy issues.
"The letter was organized by Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) who was joined by 10 other House Democrats to express admiration for Mr. Soros and his 'dedication to the ideals of an open and fair society.'
"In their letter, the House Democrats also express concern over 'the McCarthyite attacks that have been made on you by some American politicians, including colleagues of ours, who have gone far beyond the reasonable bounds of civil discourse in their efforts to discredit you.'"

George Soros: Chairman of Soros Fund Management LCC, a private investment management firm that serves as principal advisor to the Quantum Group of Funds, based in the Netherlands Antilles, a Caribbean tax haven. "George Soros is known as the wealthiest speculator of all time. His trading all took place in the Netherlands Antilles, where his earnings compounded tax free," reports turtletrader.com http://www.turtletrader.com/oig.html. The Netherlands Antilles is described by the CIA as a "transshipment point for South American drugs bound for the US and Europe" and "money-laundering center."

Soros has a home in Sun Valley near the Kerry home - a ski/vacation home located near the banks of the Big Wood River fashioned from a reassembled barn originally built in England in 1485 and brought to Idaho by Teresa Heinz Kerry's late husband. It was purchased for $4.9 million in 1988.

Tailgunner, it gets even better: The Ukranians say they think Soros was a low-grade collaborator with the Nazis in Hungary: handling currency/valuables exchanges;that he fled just ahead of the Russians....and emerged a "pious,freedom-loving Jew"- which his is apparently considered by large parts of the Jewish "community".
I've also read anti-Semitic accounts which have him acting as an evil agent of "International Jewry".
Hardcore, oldline Commies insist he is a tool of the CIA.
I don't know if any of these versions is true, but I do know (from published reports) he has a substantial monetary interest in de-valuing US currency -and stands to reap billions in profits if he succeeds. His taking of a "short position" on the US dollar corresponds almost exactly with his funding of MoveOn and the other anti-Bush groups he founded and funded.
That particular juxtaposition of facts has met with nearly ZERO RESPONSE in any segment of the Media....and needs to be broadcast like a fire alarm !!

Well, I don't know much about Soros except he is against my president. But the idea that someone who supports drug cartels would support drug legalization is ludicrous. As soon as drugs are legal, the profit streams for the cartels will dry up. So this line of attack on Soros is pretty useless really.

This was already worked over by the blogs last week. The consensus is that Hastert made an ass of himself.

THAT'S why Soros is pumping more money into the anti-Bush movement. He's up to his keester short the dollar. If Bush wins and the dollar strengthens, he stands to lose millions. It this point, more money into MoveOn.org is "covering his bet".
The funny part is if Bush wins (as it looks like he will) and the dollar goes up (which it probably will), it will be poetic justice after all the economic damage Soros has done to other countries in his currency manipulation schemes.
Another one of a long list of events indicating the existence of God. Ironic, given Soros' antagonism to religion.

George Soros says dollar likely stable near-term
Wed Sep 29, 2004 04:58 PM ET
NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Billionaire philanthropist and speculator George Soros said on Wednesday he expected the dollar to remain stable because foreign investors remain willing to keep buying the currency despite record U.S. current account deficits. "There's a fundamental imbalance in our payments and now in our budget, but there are people on the other side who are very happy to hold dollars. So again I don't see any immediate, major moves in that," he said on an interview to business cable channel CNBC.
"We currency speculators are more likely to die of boredom," Soros said.
For more than a year Soros has at times admitted to short-selling the dollar in currency markets, but when asked whether he still had a short position, Soros declined to comment.
So much for the Master of the Universe, eh, Georgie-boy? There is too much satisfaction for me in all this... far more than any coin could ever provide.
Either that, or he's trying to con another market move.

It would have been Soros' father who dealt with the Nazis. He explicitly renounced Judaism and changed the family name to Soros. Why large parts of the Jewish community would consider him a pious Jew is beyond me (I don't know if they do, honestly - though he has given sppeches to Jewish groups). He's an atheist who seeks the destruction of all religion, including tradtional Judaism.
Soros is a genuinely evil individual. He is likely a greater threat to the survival of this nation than Osama Bin Laden is.

In other words,sh!t floats.
To: motexva
Actually, that is not as ludicrous as it may seem. If drugs are legalized, who would be the ones with the production and distribution infastructure already in place? The cartels would have a distinct advantage over Bristol-Meyers-Squibb.
To: Grut
Nothing that Hastert says about Soros is untrue...the 527's must go.
The only one making a sorry ass of himself is Soros.

Hastert's comment was obviously inelegantly referring to drug legalization groups, i.e. NORMAL, not the drug cartels.

Nothing that Hastert says about Soros is untrue You're absolutely right.
If there was even the slightest chance that Soros could survive the discovery process, he would have brought suit against the Speaker for slander.
Funny how this, after much bluster and bother, has died on the vine. If Hastert has really "made an ass of himself," the MSM would be all over it. It seems everyone knows where Soros gets his money from, and they don't want to call attention to it.
