There is pending legislation in the House and Senate HR163 and Senate S89 by Democrats Charles Rangel from NY and Fritz Hollings of South Carolina to reinstitute the draft.

All the supporters of this bill are Democrats: Mr. RANGEL, Mr. HOLLINGS, Mr. MCDERMOTT, Mr. CONYERS, Mr. LEWIS, Mr. STARK, and Mr. ABERCROMBIE
These bills will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin as early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election.
The democrats are quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward, entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."
These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.
Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. This plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft. College students would not be exempt under the new draft. Kerry has stated that “A Kerry Administration will offer Americans the chance to earn the equivalent of their state's four-year public college tuition in exchange for two years of service.”

The draft $28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (sss) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to the next president on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation.

Sounds good to me. At least our Viral Marketing is based in some sort of reality, unlike Kerry's draft charge. After all, it is the dems put forth the only bill trying to start the draft.

Sounds good. There are brand new Draft flyers going around Colleges today that say that Bush is going call up the draft. They are full color ones. We Must Counter the Dem's LIES!
Charlie Rangle started this nonsense. He said numerous time that the only people volunteering were the minorities and or poor as they had no other choice. EGAD! I can't stand the liberal mind.

Except, this is less of BS, after all, the dems did try to put a bill through on this.

College Republian groups work hard to build their credibility. My suggestion is that this NOT be sent to them. They need to stay above these tactics. IMO
Bush just made an Orange Kerry joke in Florida. LOL. Talking about orange groves, and went on to mentioning the senators new orange skin.
