LUMBERTON - A Lumberton woman who tormented her pet Boston terrier was given jail time by a District Court judge on Tuesday. She is the second Robeson County woman convicted of animal cruelty in the past month to receive an active jail term.
Treza Ann Sweeney, 47, 305 Hollywood Drive, was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty in December 2003 and pled no contest to the charge Tuesday, according to Katherine Floyd, the equine and animal cruelty investigator for Robeson County.
Judge Greg Bell sentenced Sweeney to 45 days in jail - she received 20 days credit for time served after she was jailed for contempt of court and refusal to comply to a psychiatric evaluation, Floyd said.
"She openly admitted to me and another animal cruelty investigator that she gave pap smears to her dog," Floyd said. "We're finally making an impact on animal cruelty cases in this community."
Floyd said Sweeney had suspected that her neighbor had had sex with the dog, but Floyd's investigation revealed no evidence of that taking place.
Floyd said Sweeney reported her dog stolen in December and, when Floyd arrived at her home, she found Sweeney trying to revive the Boston terrier by giving it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Floyd said the dog appeared to have been dead for a couple of days.
oh that is just disgusting
Beyond disgusting - the act and the light sentence.
Isn't the kind of dog you have?
It is indeed. I am sad, and would love nothing better than to kick that "woman"'s sorry ass from here to Gomorrah.
Musta farted too much for her, but that's no excuse.
