Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year
On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get more young Americans serving the nation.
As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.

How about they just get a job and pay their own tuition.
The cost of tuition is atn issue, but as long as the government is giving money to subsidize it, colleges will find stupid ways to spend it. Allow some competitiveness in the college world (get the "board of regents" monopoly out of the way) and there's no reason that colleges can't give a solid education for less than $2000 per year without any subsidy.
I suggest using "view source" and archiving this page.
It'll "vanish" soon.
It's a kinder, gentler draft.
Like the infamous "boiling frog", they won't notice it until it's too late.
It's real. Follow the link to the Kerry website (you may have to copy and paste to your browser) at the bottom of the article. Once you get there and follow further links to the rest of his plan, you'll see a lot of it is pure communism.
Laid end to end, sKerry's flip-flops would reach Uranus.
Is this new or is it brain fart he had fighting Howard Dean last year?
Yay, mandatory service. As in, "serve or be punished". Didn't we have some sort of internal conflict over that, about 160 years ago? Perhaps between northern and southern states?
No thanks, I'd like to leave American slavery in the past.
A Kerry presidency will see America's fighting men leave the military in droves rather than serve a traitor...like Kerry
The dems will have to draft in order to have an Army...unless they use an economic draft..
An economy so bad the military will be the only place to find work...
imo
'doh, I can't do math, make that 140 years ago.
Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And who is the GOVERNMENT!!!!!
I have a girl in college, and we are paying ($20K+) for most of her tuition, dorm and books. She got a few scholarships that she had to work very hard for, but that is nothing compared to the total cost.
Either it is a draft (military service) or his union supporters will be real happy (not) about having their jobs taken by those doing their national service (civilian service). What will having so many young people working for their tuition do to the national economy?
Yah, the difference between his and both the Clinton's lingo is that Kerry doesn't use so much of the directly marxist vocabulary.
Who was the Chinese dictator who forced young Chinese out into the fields? It reduced a generation to menial labor because most never finished their education. I wonder if this is where Kerry got this stupid idea?
Hold On! This "idea" has already been done: by NEA and Dems. In 90s, across this great fruited land, some highschools were demanding "mandatory" volunteerism, in order for students to get their HS diplomas. Small catch: You could only volunteer at places NEA thought were "worthwhile": Planned Parenthood, Animal Shelters, etc. Nope, you could not do volunteer work for your church, boys scouts, etc. I wanna see John Kerry's "list". Like... intern for Kofi Annan?
What do I get for 4 months?

Right so just to get this straight, if my kids don't want to serve in Kerrys DRAFT then I have to pay for their education plus everyone elses education!!! I don't think this won't be Constitutionally legal But, What say you !!
We -still- have slavery in America.
It's just that now a segment of the population picks Democrats instead of cotton.
The difference is that now the slaves joyfully serve their masters and they're actually *grateful* for the shackles.
This "program" shows exactly how the Dems manage to psychologically manipulate the masses into slipping on the chains...with a smile.
